John Driskell Hopkins Life

John Driskell Hopkins (born May 3, 1971) is best known for his contributions as a founding member, singer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter for the Grammy Award Winning group Zac Brown Band.

Hopkins co-wrote "Toes" from the Zac Brown Band's debut on major-label, "Toes" by Zac Brown, Wyatt Durette, and Shawn Mullins.

It was the band's second top-one single.

Hopkins co-wrote, with Zac Brown, Wyatt Durette, and Sonia Leigh, the band's second single, "Goodbye in Her Eyes," on the band's third major-label album Uncaged. Hopkins co-wrote the band's first hit on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart, "Heavy Is the Head," starring Chris Cornell and was the second single from the band's fourth major label studio album Jekyll + Hyde's release in 2015.

Early life

Hopkins was born in Gainesville, Georgia, and was the eldest of four brothers. He earned a degree in general theatre from Florida State University in 1993. Hopkins, the front man of a group called The Woodpeckers, was a student at Florida State University.

Personal life

Hopkins was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease in December 2021. He did not officially reveal this illness until May 20, 2022, when he and the remainder of the Zac Brown Band announced it on YouTube. Hopkins created the charity Hop on a Cure in response to fund disease research.

Career

Hopkins moved to Atlanta after college. He formed his rock band Brighter Shade in 1996, with whom he also appears. By the early 2000s, Brighter Shade had released two albums. Hopkins was involved in several projects in the Atlanta area, including one with Zac Brown In 2005, Hopkins joined the Zac Brown Band on bass guitar and vocals, while others in the production process. Hopkins formed the Balsam Range, a bluegrass band formed in 2011. Daylight, their debut CD, received critical acclaim in January 2013.

The Bloody Wolves Of Venice was formed by Hopkins, alongside fellow musicians Greg Lee, Mike Rizzi, Mark Dannells, and Mick Murphy. The Bloody Wolves of Venice released The Revelation EP, a 5-song EP that was included in the 2018 film "Adolescence."

On bluegrass radio in 2011, Hopkins was so impressed that he ordered all of their music. They soon met and formed an immediate personal and musical connection. They decided to unite and play a CD. The album Daylight was released in September 2012 but not in January 2013.

Buddy Melton (fiddle, vocals), Darren Nicholson (Mandolin, vocals), Marc Pruett (Banjo), Tim Surron (guitar, vocals), and Tim Sursam Range are a five piece bluegrass powerhouse based in Haywood County, NC. In Asheville's Mountain Xpress, Best Old-Time/Bluegrass Band of the Year 2012, 2013 IBMA "Album of the Year" Award Recipients, and 2014 IBMA "Entertainer of the Year" Recipients. Hopkins and Balsam Range are still performing together on stage.

Jerry Douglas, a Dobro master and 14-time Grammy winner, was also featured on Hopkins' Daylight, a 2013 edition.

Hopkins has also performed with the "Dappled Grays," a GA bluegrass band, on several tours, including two sold out nights at The String Cheese Incident's opening in 2014.

In 1996, Hopkins formed the ferocious songwriter group Brighter Shade. Hopkins on vocals and guitar, Andy Birdsall on vocals and guitar, Sean McIntyre on bass, and Marcus Petruska on drums were all included in the original lineup. In 1996, the pair made their self-titled debut.

A second line-up will be followed by Hopkins and Birsdall; however, there will be new members; Wilder Embry on bass, Damian Cartier on keys, and Eric Sanders on drums. In 2001, they released Divine Ignorance, Brighter Shade's sophomore album.

In and around Atlanta, the Sunshine Shader still performs on and around the city.

Hopkins' recording studio "Brighter Shade Studios" showcases his band's name, and it was where the Zac Brown album "Home Grown" was recorded in 1998. The Foundation and You Get What You Give were also used in the recording of the first two major albums of the Zac Brown Band; the Foundation and You Get What You Give.

Hopkins received a degree in General Theatre from Florida State University in 1993. Careful What You Wish For starring Nick Jonas, Isabel Lucas, and Paul Sorvino was released in May 2015. Hopkins appeared in Adolescence, a 2018 film. Hopkins is a member of the forthcoming crime drama Breakwater, which is expected to be announced later this year.

When some of the Zac Brown Band's members were refused admission to the country, they were forced to cancel their performance in Vancouver, Canada, on Friday night. The band and their crew were supposed to appear at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, but agents had to stop them at the border. According to a source, 'Zac and his crew were detained in Vancouver for two hours because a few of his crew members had committed crimes that had been expunged years and years ago.' 'Zac refused to leave his crew members behind because they're like a family, so he decided to cancel the show.' He's so angry about it because he loves his followers, but his crew - they're like a family.'
