Born and raised in North Plainfield, New Jersey, DiMaggio graduated from North Plainfield High School. He is of Italian parentage, and was raised in the Catholic faith. He attended Rutgers University.

Career
DiMaggio is best known for his appearances in Final Fantasy X as Bender on Futurama, Marcus Fenix in the Gears of War series, Dr. Drakken on Kim Possible, Jake the Dog on Adventure Time, Wakka, and Kimahri. He is a former comedian, appearing on stage with "Red Johnny and the Round Guy" and several on-screen credits, including Steve Ballmer in Pirates of Silicon Valley (the docudrama about Apple Computer and Microsoft) and Dr. Sean Underhill, a recurring character on Chicago Hope.
He was both the executive producer and narrator of I Know That Voice, a documentary on voice acting, along with producer Tommy Reid and director Lawrence Shapiro in 2013.
In 2022, DiMaggio, who revealed that Futurama would be revived for a second time through Disney and Hulu, became embroiled in conflict during talks, while still asking more money to restore the role of Bender, which he referred to as "#BenderGate." Fans of DiMaggio's request for better compensation, while DiMaggio said that the entire cast deserved better compensation and that it represented a company effort to abuse voice actors. Veteran voice actors Tara Strong, Kari Wahlgren, and Mark Hamill were among DiMaggio's collaborators on the project, while James Adomian said a casting call for a sound-alike of DiMaggio had been sent out by the studio. Though it was initially announced that DiMaggio would not be returning to the role, he later announced that he would return. He stated that, though he did not succeed in obtaining a salary increase, he felt the need for proper compensation in the voice acting market was important.
