Joel Rueben Combs was born in Waldorf, Maryland, on March 11, 1979, to Robin Madden and Roger Combs. Benji Madden, who plays guitar and sings backing vocals in their band, Good Charlotte, has a sibling. Josh Madden, an older brother who also works in the music industry, and Sarah Madden, a younger sister. Madden attended La Plata High School in La Plata, Maryland.
Personal life
Hilary Duff, a 25-year-old Madden, started dating teen idol Hilary Duff when she was 16 years old in July 2004. Career
Madden, his brother Benji, and a friend formed their own band in 1995, at the age of 16. The band was short-lived, and the Maddens eventually recruited Paul Thomas, Aaron Escolopio, and Billy Martin to form their band Good Charlotte. They took the name Good Charlotte from Carol Beach York's book Good Charlotte: The Good Charlotte Girls of the Good Day Orphanage.
Madden and the other Good Charlotte students made a cameo appearance as the band at the school's prom in 2001's film Not Another Teen Movie. He appeared in the 2004 film Fat Albert and in the 2006 film Material Girls with his brother Benji. He appeared in The Naked Brothers Band, a hit Nickelodeon musical comedy film in which he appeared in the band for a live stream.
Madden, Benji, and Josh founded MADE Clothing, a clothing line. The company is now defunct. MADE Clothing became the DCMA Collective in early 2006.
