Joseph Maxwell Dempsie (born 22 June 1987) is an English actor best known for his roles as Chris Miles in the E4 teen comedy-drama Skins (2007–2008) and Gendry Baratheon in Game of Thrones (2011–2019).

Dempsie's earlier acting credits include the medical dramas Peak Practice (2000), Doctors (2001-2003), and Sweet Medicine (2003), as well as the films One for the Road and Heartlands (2004).

He appeared in This is England, a BBC documentary-drama about Tony Martin, as the villainous John in The Fades (2011).

Joseph Maxwell Dempsie was born in Liverpool on June 22nd, 1987. His Scottish father was a social worker. He grew up in West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire. He obtained his acting lessons at Nottingham's Central Junior Television Workshop and was also trained at The West Bridgford School.

Personal life

Dempsie is a London resident. He is a Nottingham Forest F.C. He is a solicitor. A fan of the team's shirt once appeared on Soccer AM, and then waved to the team's shirt. He is also a fan of Scotland's national football team being half Scottish.

In the United Kingdom, Dempsie has been the face of the Clearasil brand. In episode 6 of Doctor Who's Daughter, which aired on May 10, 2008, Dempsie played the character Cline, a soldier who watches his comrades die. Dempsie appeared on the Friday Night Project with Geri Halliwell on April 18, 2008. He appeared on T4 in Weston Super Mare with fellow Skins cast members on July 20, 2008. Duncan McKenzie appeared in The Damned United in 2009 alongside Michael Sheen, Jim Broadbent, Stephen Graham, and Timothy Spall. He appeared in The Moment of Truth, episode ten of the BBC show Merlin in November 2008. He plays Will, who is a long friend of Merlin's from the village in which they grew up together.

Steven, a gay teenager from Nottinghamshire, appeared in the Radio 4 film Once Upon a Time in 2010. In HBO's Game of Thrones based on George R.
