Maria, who has also credited Jodie Santamaria and Jodi Santamaria, as an International Emmy nominated Filipina actress, is a multi-national Emmy nominated Filipina actress.

Star Magic, a member of the Star Magic Batch 7 shamna, is one of ABS-CBN's network of homegrown talents named Star Magic.

With the famous show Tabing Ilog, she found immediate success as a child.

Personal life

Sta. Maria is the youngest child. Mercedita, the child's single mother, raised her and her brother. She was a honor student at the Philippine Pasay Chung Hua Academy. Sta. Sta. used to be a student at the University of Sta. Maria was involved in her school's extracurricular activities, including the volleyball squad and the debating team.

Sta. Maria was married to Panfilo "Pampi" Lacson Jr., the son of Senator Panfilo Lacson, who is now divorced. The two met in Las Vegas on Easter Sunday, 2005, during a taping of Tabing Ilog and married. In March 2011, the two were separated, and then Sta. Maria also filed a request for the nullity of marriage with the Regional Trial Court due to psychological incapacity. In 2014, the court described their marriage as "null and void," but the court's decision was reversed by the Court of Appeals in 2016 and confirmed in 2017.

Sta. Panfilo "Thirdy" Lacson III, a boy who was born in 2005, has a son named Maria and Lacson III. Sta. argues in a 2016 interview. Maria confessed that her separation from Lacson had harmed her in terms of alcoholism and heroin use. Since being a Born again Christian, she quit smoking, alcohol, and heroin. Sta was approached by a talent scout. While working at a fast-food franchise, Maria and her friends will audition for commercials. They gave up after numerous auditions and no interest. The talent scout arrived in Sta just a few weeks later. Mara has been invited to audition for Star Magic once more. At 15, she was one of the youngest in their class.

Sta. has been involved in teen-oriented shows and films, including Gimik, Flames, and Jologs. Maria played a part in Tabing Ilog as the sassy tomboyish Georgina. The show was extremely popular and lasted for almost five years. Luis Manzano and she were also a host of Star Circle Quest.
