Kathryn Chandria Manuel Bernardo (born March 26, 1996) is a Filipina actress best known for her role as Mara in the TV series Mara Clara (2010–2011).

Princess and I (2012–2013), Got to Believe (2013–2014), Pangako Sa 'Yo (2015–2016), and La Luna Sangre (2017–2018).

She has appeared in numerous films, including Way Back Home (2011), Must Be... Love (2013), Can't Help Falling in Love (2018), The Hows of Us (2018), Hello, Love (2018), and Goodbye (2019) Bernardo is the first and only Filipina actress to break the 800-Million dollar mark for two films.

One was in 2018 for The How We Were Human, the other is Hello, Love, Goodbye for 2019.

Bernardo's film Hello, Love, Goodbye is currently the highest grossing Filipino Film of All Time.

It also became the highest-grossing Filipino Film in the Middle East, Australia, and North America.

Kathryn Chandria Manuel Bernardo was born in Cabanatuan, Philippines, on March 26, 1996. Luzviminda and Teodore Bernardo are her parents. She was raised with her three siblings, two sisters named Chrysler and Kaye, and one brother named Kevin. She is the youngest in her family's household.

Bernardo was raised as a member of Iglesia ni Cristo, but she is now practicing Evangelical Protestantism.

Bernardo said in 2018 that she has been in a long-term friendship with her on-screen partner, actor Daniel Padilla, since May 25, 2012.

Education

Bernardo attended OB Montessori Center Inc. before her debut in 2003. She was homeschooled and now attends Enderun Colleges, Taguig, where she studies marketing.

Career

Bernardo began acting in 2003 and appeared on ABS-CBN's It Might Be You. She landed her first major role in the television series Super Inggo, starring Maya, which was the love interest of the main protagonist in 2006. She went on to appear in other ABS-CBN shows, including Krystala and Vietnam Rose, before landing a permanent spot on Goin' Bulilit.

Bernardo had a dramatic role in 2010, the first being young Victoria on ABS-CBN's Magkaribal and young Jenny on GMA's Endless Love. Both premiered on June 28, 2010.

Mara David/Mara Del Valle's breakthrough role in the 1992 television drama Mara Clara was her co-star and off-screen best friend Julia Montes. Since its debut, the TV series has been a consistent leader in primetime ratings. The show, which confirmed its success, was nominated in the 2011 Banf World Media Festival's "Telenovelas & Soap Operas" category, which also celebrated Bernardo's career as a leading actor.

Bernardo debuted in the Sunday afternoon youth program Growing Up after the primetime teleserye ended, and he soon appeared in the Sunday afternoon youth show Growing Up. Following the success of Growing Up, Bernardo appeared in Princess and I, a romance/drama royal-themed television series. The teleserye is described as one of the first Philippine show to be shot in Bhutan, with Daniel Padilla as Gino Dela Rosa, Enrique Gil as Prince Jao, and Bernardo as Mikay/Princess Areeyah. Except from Padilla and Gil as Bernardo's top men on the show, Pilipinas Got Talent Season 3 contestant Khalil Ramos played Mikay's unrequited lover and best friend Kiko. Gretchen Barretto and Albert Martinez, two other veteran actors, appeared in the film.

In September 2012, the show attracted unprecedented attention and esteem as the nation's top primetime show, opening new doors for Bernardo's brilliant career. Despite their economic inequalities and family history, Chichay and her childhood friend Joaquin Manansala (Padilla)'s love story came to a conclusion in August 2013. Getting to Believe was also a primetime television hit, with 38.6% in viewerships during the show's last episode and debuting at No. 76. 2 on Kantar Media's national TV rankings list.

They both appeared in 24/7 in Love, a Filipino romantic-comedy film that was released on November 21, 2012. She then co-starred comedian Vice Ganda and Daniel Padilla in the 2012 MMFF entry, Sisterakas, a first-quarter film directed by Daniel Padilla, and she premiered Must Be... Love, her first solo project film from Star Cinema, on March 13.

Bernardo and Padilla appeared in the film (an entry for the 2013 Metro Manila Film Festival) Pagpag (produced by Star Cinema and Regal Films) which was broadcast on Christmas Day in December 2013.

Bernardo and Padilla also announced a movie version of Bianca Bernardino's best-selling book She's Dating the Gangster as part of Star Cinema's 20th anniversary in July 2014. Star Cinema was co-produced by Summit Media and directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina. Bernardo and Padilla were paired on big screen in this fifth film since the success of their romantic comedy television series Got to Believe (which was also directed by Garcia-Molina). According to Star Cinema Advertising Manager Mico del Rosario, the film was a financial success, grossing PHP 15 million (US$340,000) on its first day of showing. According to reports, the movie earned PHP 230 million (US$5,476,190) in its fourth week (August 3, 2014). Bernardo was ranked 17th behind former Japanese AV Idol Maria Ozawa for the FHM Philippines 100 Sexiest Woman 2015, which was won by Jennylyn Mercado a year after she was recognized by FHM UK. Bernardo and Vice Ganda were among the country's own stars in the country's version of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Eastwood Walk of Fame, located in Eastwood City, Quezon City, on December 1, 2014.

She released "You Don't Know Me" as the lead single on her debut album on November 6, which was written by Marion Aunor and is about a blossoming friendship that struggles to thrive due to a lack of desire by one of the two people concerned to truly get to know the other. The album was released on November 30 under Star Music, totaling eleven songs.

Bernardo cites American pop stars Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande as her musical inspirations; she later said she considers local pop sensation Sarah Geronimo and singer Yeng Constantino her idols.
