Jo Min-su Career

Career

Jo Min-su graduated from a vocational high school, Gyungbok Girls' Commercial High School, and first ventured into film by directing a television commercial worth 120 thousand (roughly US$100). She debuted in 1986 through the KBS TV Cultural Center and came first on the big screen in Chung: Blue Sketch. But her public image grew more through television appearances than films, culminating in the 1989 KBS Drama Awards' Best Actress award. Sandglass, Daemang (also known as Great Ambition), and Piano were among her other notable television series. She took a break from acting after her marriage in 2005 but returned four years later in Will It Snow for Christmas?

But 2012 will be the now-veteran actress' breakthrough year. Jo, who had reservations about shooting Kim Ki-duk's controversial film, became grateful to Kim for allowing her the opportunity "to work with fresh content from what she was used to in the past." There aren't many jobs that women of a certain age can do. They all seem to be the same. "But this position was different." Her appearance in Pietà earned her rave reviews and adoration at the Venice Film Festival, as well as domestic critics and audiences, including a Best Actress award at the Grand Bell Awards. She was also given the prestigious Okgwan Order of Cultural Merit.
