Shim Eun-kyung Life

Shim Eun-kyung (born May 31, 1994) is a South Korean actress.

She has appeared in Sunny (2011), Miss Granny (2014), Fabricated City (2017), as well as the television series Naeil's Cantabile (2014).

Personal life

Shim is her mother's youngest daughter. Her interests include listening to music, reading science fiction books, and doing taekwondo. She is the drummer of a band she formed with colleagues, Chick and Candy.

After graduating from Eonbuk Elementary School and Cheongdam Middle School in 2010, Shim briefly ceased acting to move to the United States, saying, "I chose a place where there aren't a lot of Korean students" and settled on a high school in Pittsburgh. Studying is a goal, but I also chose this because I've been depressed mentally and physically after being active since a young age." She completed her high school at the Professional Children's School in 2013.

She shot a commercial with rocker Seo Taiji in 2008 and portrayed the younger version of Lee Ji-ah's character Sujini in The Legend, but she didn't know she was actually married until 2011, when she was accused of seo and Lee's daughter, which she denied.

She had been nominated for the Best Actress award at the 2011 Grand Bell Awards for her role in Sunny, Shim's personal account revealed on Twitter that her name was stripped from the official list of the nominees after she informed them she was unable to attend the event because she was still studying in the United States. She was one of four actors and actresses barred from the initial list of the nominees. Shim was named Best Supporting Actress for her role in Romantic Heaven, but Chun Woo-hee, her co-star in Sunny, accepted the award on Shim's behalf.

Shim Eun-kyung Career

Career

Shim made her acting debut in the 2004 TV series "The Woman Who Wants to Marry" and then went on to become one of the top child actors of her generation. She first gained notoriety for her role as a sexually assaulted teen in the horror film Hansel and Gretel, and she has also appeared in television series such as Hwang Jini, The Legend, Women of the Sun, and The Great Merchant; critics claim she sometimes outshines her adult counterparts at times.

Through the retro dramedy Sunny, which tells the tale of seven women, comparing their lives in the present and the 1980s, she successfully transitioned to a lead actress. The film, which was praised for its period detail, witty dialogue, and the performances of its ensemble cast, debunked the common belief that women-centered pictures can't achieve blockbuster-level success. Sunny's box office attracted more than 7 million visitors at the end of the year's long tenure by appealing to a variety of ages. Shim is described by director Kang Hyeong-cheol as someone "who is already perfect as an actress."

Other notable roles include a girl caught in the Korean War (also known as My Father Loves Trouble), a sister with apparent supernatural abilities in Possessed, a psychiatrist in The Quiz Show Scandal, and a court taster in Masquerade.

Miss Granny, a 2014 film in which a woman in her 70s regained control of her 20-year-old body. "This film is very close to my heart because it is the first film for me to perform not as a child actor but as a full-fledged actress," she said. Shim's success with 8.65 million admissions exceeded Sunny's, proving Shim's ability to carry a film. She also received Best Actress at the Chunsa Film Art Awards, the Baeksang Arts Awards, the Director's Cut Awards, and the Buil Film Awards.

In Naeil's Cantabile, a Korean drama adaptation of Japanese manga Nodame Cantabile, Shim next appeared as the eccentric savant pianist heroine. However, the series was a critical and commercial failure, and Shim was chastised for her appearances in the film.

Shim returned to film, appearing in animated prequel Seoul Station directed by Yeon Sang-ho, revenge drama Missing You, and Queen of Walking, which Shim calls a turning point in her career. She appeared alongside Ji Chang-wook in the action thriller Fabricated City in 2017 and alongside Choi Min-shik in the election film The Mayor. After The Face Reader, she appeared in The Princess and the Matchmaker, the second installment of the "divining art trilogy" after The Face Reader; and black comedy film Psychokinesis.

Shim made her Japanese film debut in The Journalist in 2019 and received acclaim for her role as a Japanese journalist delves into a government corruption investigation involving the Abe administration. She received the Best Actress award at the Mainichi Film Awards and then the Best Actress award at the 43rd Japanese Academy Awards the following year. She appeared in the film Blue Hour, an unusual pairing. For her appearance at the Takasaki Film Festival, she received the Best Actress award.

Shim returned to Korean entertainment with the finance thriller Money Game in 2020.
