Jinggoy Estrada Life

Jose Pimentel Ejercito Jr. (born February 17, 1963), also known as Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada or simply Jinggoy Estrada, is a Filipino politician, legislator, actor, and television presenter.

He is the son of former Philippine President Joseph Estrada.

He served as Vice Mayor of San Juan in 1988 before serving two terms as a Senator of the Philippines from 2004 to 2016.

He was elected as the town's mayor in 1992 and served until 2001.

He was arrested and charged with "stealing" 183 million from his discretionary funds in a controversy known as the Priority Development Assistance Fund scam in 2014.

He was banned from serving in prison until 2016 and sought re-election to the Senate in the 2019 general election but failed. Estrada appeared in film and television from 1985 to 2009; he received the 2007 Metro Manila Film Festival's "Best Actor Award" for his role as an actor.

Jinggoy Estrada Career

Political career

During the 1992 Philippine municipal elections at age 29, he became the youngest ever elected-local chief executive. He was instrumental in the development of modernized barangay halls with daycare centers and various recreational areas, such as gymnasiums, basketball courts, and playgrounds, during his three terms as mayor. The San Juan National High School and other public elementary schools were renovated and repaired, as well as the upgrading and replacement of drainage pipes, concretizing municipal roads, and the building of the San Juan Municipal Gymnasium. San Juan gained a reputation as one of the country's most progressive municipalities and the "most peaceful municipality."

He was elected as the national president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines from 1998 to 2001 during his last term as mayor.

He was elected as a senator in 2004. During his first term as a principal sponsor or principal author, he introduced at least 617 bills and resolutions, as well as steered the passage of at least 16 bills. Jinggoy has been dubbed the country's second most innovative and prolific senator, next to Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago, who introduced the most number of bills and resolutions in the Senate.

Estrada was elected Senate president pro tempore on July 23, 2007, a change from the previous August 23, 2007.

The Supreme Court voted 13-0 on August 15, 2007 to uphold Sandiganbayan's decision to release his bail in connection with his graft lawsuit before the graft court. Joseph Estrada, the son of the plunder case, was eventually found guilty. However, Estrada was pardoned immediately by then-President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Estrada introduced Senate Bill 1556 on September 11, 2007, stating that ROTC would be compulsory for all college students.

Jinggoy was cleared of charges of treason in the plunder case.

In 2010, he was re-elected as a senator, finishing in second place in second place. He was re-elected as Senate president pro tempore at the beginning of the 15th Congress on July 26, 2010.

During his time in the Senate, he had consistently been praised as one of the very few senators to achieve flawless attendance, with no absence or tardy during the chamber's plenary sessions.

Estrada is now charged with another fraudulent charge at the Ombudsman relating to Janet Lim Napoles' pork barrel fiasco, which amounts to 10 billion of the people's money. Juan Ponce Enrile and Bong Revilla, two other senators, as well as more than dozens of others, have been charged with him. Estrada is accused of receiving PHP183 million in kickbacks from fraudulent programs.

On August 16, 2013, the Commission on Audit of the Philippines released a study highlighting suspected abuses by senators who ostensibly approved a portion of their congressional allocations to fraudulent non-governmental entities. The allegations were the subject of a Senate probe that began later this month.

Estrada, Enrile, and Revilla were prosecuted by the Department of Justice of the Philippines before the Ombudsman on September 16, 2013.

Estrada was arrested and detained at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Camp Crame, Quezon City, on June 23, 2014. Estrada was barred from his Senate post for 90 days after the Philippine Senate suspended him from his post on September 2, 2014.

Sandiganbayan anti-graft court released a statement on September 16, 2017, granting Estrada's release.

Estrada filed a request for a demurrer before the Sandiganbayan Fifth Division on February 22, 2019, asking that the court deviate from the established procedure and allow him to challenge the sufficiency of evidence midway through the trial. Estrada and his co-accused were granted ten days to file their respective demurrers in March 2019, but the court was also given ten days to respond.

Estrada, the principal author of the Kasambahay Law, or the law promoting the interests and welfare of the Filipino domestic employees. Republic Act 10361, or simply the "Kasambahay Law," established minimums, rights, and rights of the domestic employees.

Estrada said in August 2010 that while traveling to Hong Kong, he experienced a backlash of the emotions surrounding the death of 8 Chinese nationals from Hong Kong during the 2010 Manila hostage crisis. After checking his passport, officers in Hong Kong threw it back at him, according to him.

Since the officer used a "regular passport" for personal travel, Estrada said he may not have known who he was because he used a "regular passport." He also said that he "understands the agony felt by many Hong Kong nationals."

Estrada came from Hong Kong with a diplomat passport and one from a suspected video surveillance video, according to Apple Daily, and he and three other Filipinos were accompanied by Philippine Embassy staff and had arranged to pass through the privileged passage for diplomats. The passport was returned by the immigration officer to the Philippines embassy workers, not to Estrada.

In the 2019 Philippine Senate election, Estrada ran for a comeback to the Senate. JV Ejercito, his half-brother, also applied for reelection in the Senate. During the campaign, the half-siblings expressed inconsistency over the prospect of them running at the same time. He was elected to the Hugpong ng Pagbabago senatorial slate. Nevertheless, he failed, finishing 15th in the final standings, while Ejercito ended up in 13th place, just a spot outside the winning circle. After conceding defeat, he wished that Senator Nancy Binay would win over Ejercito, which is despite both senators vying for the last spot in the partial and unofficial count. "Let him talk, because you are unwanted in your own bailiwick," JV Ejercito told Estrada, "it's painful to realize that even in your own bailiwick you are unwanted."

In the 2022 Philippine Senate election, Estrada hoped for a comeback to the Senate once more. He was elected to the UniTeam Alliance's senatorial slate and openly supported Bongbong Marcos' candidacy for president and Sara Duterte for vice president, as well as vice president Sara Duterte. JV Ejercito, his half-brother, ran for senator on the same election for the second time in a row. He came as the 12th placer, earning his third nonconsecutive term, and Ejercito was also a winner, finishing 10th. Estrada Chaired the Senate Committee on Labor, Education, and Human Resources Development, as well as the Senate Committee on National Defense and Security, Peace, Unification, and Reconciliation.

Estrada made a tweet in October 2022 when he said he was considering banning all Korean dramas in the Philippines: "Our citizens praise the Koreans as if we keep broadcasting Korean telenovelas, but Filipino artists keep losing jobs and resources." So many times it comes to my mind that we should not have a ban on the telenovelas of the foreigners, and that the Filipino artists with outstanding acting skills are what we should be seeing in our own country." Estrada said he was only angry "that though we are only too eager and keen to celebrate South Korea's entertainment industry, we have unfortunately allowed our own to suffer due to a lack of funding from the movie industry."
