Jessica McKay (born 23 June 1989) is an Australian professional wrestler.
She is signed to WWE under the ring name Billie Kay and performs on the Raw brand and is one-half of the tag team The IIconics alongside Peyton Royce. In June 2007, Kay made her professional wrestling debut at Pro Wrestling Alliance (PWA), and she debuted one-year later for the Pro Wrestling Women's Alliance promotion, where she became a two-time PWWA Champion.
She later started competing on the independent circuit for multiple promotions in the United States for several years, most notably and commonly for Shimmer Women Athletes.
Early life
McKay began watching wrestling at the age of 10 along with her brother, and started her professional wrestling career first attending to the Australian promotion based in Sydney, Pro Wrestling Australia. Prior to becoming a wrestler, McKay excelled in basketball. She attended the same high school (Westfields Sports) as fellow wrestler Cassie Lee.
Professional wrestling career
McKay was drafted by the Madison Eagles. Jessie McKay, a woman who played under her birth name Jessie McKay, debuted on June 23, 2007, on her eighteenth birthday, at PWA Australia, defeating the Eagles and Aurora.
McKay defeated defending champion Kellie Skater to win the PWWA Championship for the first time on August 2, 2008. On November 8, she had a fruitful title defense against Tenille Tayla. She lost her title to Penni Lane on November 22nd. McKay won the PWWA Championship for the second time in a four-way match against Kellie Skater, Sway, and Shazza McKenzie on September 14, 2009. Lane vacated her title due to injury. In March and May 2010, McKay had two fruitful title defenses against KC Cassidy and Madison Eagles, but lost the championship to the Eagles on June 11th.
McKay did not win in a three-way match for the Shimmer Championship in September 2011, which also included champion Madison Eagles and Nicole Matthews. In August 2012, she was defeated by Evie in a contest to crown the interim PWWA champion.
McKay debuted in October 2008 when she joined the Madison Eagles as the first team to determine the inaugural Shimmer Tag Team Champions, but not the first team was disqualified. McKay made her solo debut in Shimmer in 1996, losing to Kellie Skater at Volume 24.
McKay defeated Nicole Matthews in September 2010 at Volume 33 after losing to Matthews earlier this year in April at Volume 30. In a three-way match between pinning former Shimmer Champion Del Rey and Sara Del Rey, she won by an upset over Ayako Hamada and Sara Del Rey. As a result, McKay was granted a championship match against her manager and former tag team, Shimmer Champion Madison Eagles, but she was unable to win.
McKay continued her rivalry with Nicole Matthews after she lost the championship battle. She teamed up with Tenille in the Shimmer Tag Team Championship, but she was disqualified. However, she won at Volume 38 over the Canadian NINJAs while working with Serena. McKay ended her feud with Matthews with a defeat in a two-out-of-three falls match at Volume 39 in March 2011.
McKay received another shot at the Shimmer Championship in March 2012, defeating Mia Yim at Volume 45 and former Shimmer Champion MsChif at Volume 46, but lost to defending champion Melissa at Volume 47. In the Eagles' return match, McKay was defeated by the Madison Eagles at Volume 53 in April 2013. Kay defeated Mercedes Martinez at Volume 57.
McKay has competed in other American sports, including Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) and Ring of Honor (ROH), as well as Chikara in 2011. In 2012, she also competed for the Canadian competition NCW Femmes Fatales. McKay made his American debut in Shine 9 in April 2014, defeating Nikki Roxx, Santana, and Mia Yim.
McKay got a try out with WWE during their tour of Australia in August 2014 and became a NXT trainee on April 13. McKay made her television debut on the 10th of June on NXT's tenth episode, where she defeated Becky Lynch under the ring name Jessie. Billie Kay, the new ring name, was given to her on August 7th. Kay played in the majority of her NXT matches as a face on October 21, losing to Asuka. Kay began being coached by Sylvester Lefort, a fellow wrestler, at several NXT live events, but it wasn't long after Lefort was fired from his position in February 2016.
Kay appeared in a number one contender's tournament royal for Bayley's NXT Women's Championship, which was won by Carmella on January 13, 2016. On the 30th June episode of SmackDown, Kay made her first appearance on the main roster, where she competed as a jobber losing to Dana Brooke. Kay won her first live victory in the company on July 27th, where she defeated Santana Garrett in their first live win in the company. On the 17th August episode of NXT, she was given a match against the debutant Ember Moon after asking NXT's general manager William Regal for a match at TakeOver: Brooklyn II. Kay was defeated by Moon at the 20th of August's festival. Kay returned from NXT's 21 September episode, where she defeated Aliyah after a brief hiatus.
Kay formed The Iconic Duo in October and then began a rivalry with Liv Morgan, with the two teams attacking and defeating Morgan in singles matches. This culminated in a six-women tag team match at Takeover: Toronto, which was taped and aired on NXT's 23 November episode in which Aliyah, Ember Moon, and Morgan defeated Kay, Royce's partner Daria Berenato. After the latter announced that there is no competition for her, Kay and Royce were caught in a brief squabble with NXT Women's Champion Asuka in December. This culminated in a tragic four-way match involving Nikki Cross at the TakeOver: San Antonio tournament on January 28, 2017, in which Kay and Royce failed to qualify for the NXT Women's Championship.
While cutting a promo about her match at WrestleMania 34, Kay and Royce, now dubbed The IIconics, made their main roster debut on the 10th of SmackDown Live's battle against then SmackDown Women's Champion Charlotte Flair's on April 10, 2018. Kay lost to Flair a week later. The IIconics won their first match as part of the main roster against Asuka and Becky Lynch. Kay participated in various singles and tag team competitions over the past few months, but ultimately came to a conclusion. With Naomi, the IIconics began their first feud on the main roster in August, and the two were able to defeat her in singles matches. Naomi eventually joined Asuka but lost to the IIconics at the Super Show-Down on October 6th, which took place in the latter's homeland of Australia. Both Kay and Royce were the first two women's pay-per-view competitors in WWE's first all-women's pay-per-view Evolution, three weeks later; they were the first two women to be disqualified from a final women's championship match.
Both Kay and Royce made their first Royal Rumble match at number 7 and number 9, respectively, on January 27, 2019, avoiding Nikki Cross before being eliminated by Lacey Evans. The IIconics participated in a tag team Elimination Chamber match for the inaugural WWE Women's Tag Team Championship, which was won by The Boss 'n' Hug Connection' (Bayley and Sasha Banks). The IIconics began a feud with Banks and Bayley in March, whom they defeated in a non-title match. They (and two other teams) defeated Banks and Bayley 35 in a crucial four-way match at WrestleMania 35. For the first time, the IIconics won the tournament, which took place on April 7th. The IIconics lost the titles to Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross in a deadly four-way match involving The Kabuki Warriors' (Asuka and Kairi Sane) and Fire and Desire (Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville) on the 5th of August. On October 16, it was revealed that The IIconics had been drafted to the Raw brand as supplemental picks of the 2019 WWE Draft.
Kay and Royce made their return to Raw on May 11, interrupting WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross after a brief hiatus. They then defeated the champions in a non-title match. Throughout the summer, they would unsuccessfully compete for the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships multiple times. Ruby Riottt will start a feud with her backstage for not having any friends. When Kay and Royce defeated Riott, they will continue to trade victories, while Riott defeated Kay and Riott, while Riott defeated Kay. The IIconics were defeated by Riott and her newly reunited tag partner Liv Morgan at Payback. The IIconics were compelled to disband after losing to The Riott Squad per stipulation on Raw the following night.
Kay went undrafted and was later signed as a free agent to the SmackDown brand as part of the 2020 Draft in October. Kay will launch a storyline on SmackDown, where she will invite Superstars such as Street Profits and Big E to look at her resume, but they will be refused by them. She appeared on SmackDown's 1 January 2021 episode, assisting the Riott Squad in defeating Natalya and Tamina, much to their dismay. Kay would attempt to convince The Riott Squad to join them in their squad over the next few weeks as she accompanied them in their matches and threatened to interfere in matches on their behalf, apparently turning face for the first time since October 2015. On Night 1 of WrestleMania 37, Kayomella defeated Carmella for a tag team feud match, which was won by Natalya and Tamina. This will be Kay's last appearance in WWE after she (along with her coworker Peyton Royce) were released from their WWE contracts on April 15 2021.
The IIconics, now known as The IInspiration, will make their debut for Impact Wrestling at Bound for Glory at Knockout Knockouts Knockdown on October 9th. They won the Impact Knockouts World Tag Team Championship in Bound for Glory over Decay (Havok and Rosemary) over Bound for Glory. When the IInspiration defeated Decay once more on November 20, they celebrated their first fruitful title defense. McKay and McIntosh announced on Twitter on April 27th that they had requested their immediate release from Impact Wrestling.
