Jessica Napier (born 4 April 1979) is a New Zealand-born actress based in Australia.
She has appeared in a number of film franchises, including Love Serenade, Blackrock, Cut, City Loop, Poverty, The Illustrated Family Doctor, and Ghost Rider, and is best known for her continued role as Becky Howard in the Australian television drama series McLeod's Daughters.
Early life
Napier was born in Wellington, New Zealand. When she was a child, her mother, actress Marshall Napier, moved the family to Australia.
Personal life
She is married to David Adler. Emily and Oliver have a daughter Emily and a son Oliver. Both Jessica and her father Marshall are vegetarians and endorse various animal rights charities. She has also advocated for the use of retired circus elephants at Taronga Zoo in Sydney.
Career
Jessica had her first encounter with acting when she appeared as her father's daughter on the long-running Australian television series Police Rescue. In another episode a year later, she appeared as Jennifer Jones, when Marshall nominated her to fill a position where the woman who had been originally supposed to do the job refused because the woman was expected to be submerged in a swamp.
Jessica was not aware she wanted to be an actress until she turned 15 years old. On her first serious audition, she received the lead role of Edwina on Echo Point. Her first film appearance was in Shirley Barrett's award-winning Love Serenade (with Miranda Otto), then followed by the critically acclaimed Blackrock, where her character's brother was played by Heath Ledger in his first major film role.
She appeared in a number of other popular Australian television shows, including Water Rats and Murder Calls; later, she played Gerry Davis in the critically acclaimed Wildside alongside Aaron Pedersen, Rachel Blake, and Tony Martin; she appeared in Water Rats and Murder Call. The improvisational-style film also launched Abbie Cornish's career.
