Personal life
Teng was born on March 18, 1991, to Alvin and Susan Teng. He is the second oldest among four siblings. He has two sisters, Alyssa and Almira and a younger brother, Jeron. His father, Alvin Teng, is a former player with the Philippine Basketball Association who won multiple titles as a member of the San Miguel Beermen. His younger brother, Jeron, is also a professional basketball player for the Converge FiberXers. Both Jeric and Jeron played for the Xavier Golden Stallions.
College career
Teng joined the Tigers in 2009, where he received the Rookie of the Year award. Dylan Ababou and Khasim Mirza were among the UST's ATM trio in that season. The Tigers finished the season 6-8 and made it to the Final Four, but the Ateneo Blue Eagles defeated them 64-81. Teng finished the season with 11.3 points per game, 4.0 rebounds per game, and 1.5 assists per game.
Teng led the Tigers in scoring averages of 12.9 points per game and 1.9 assists per game while shooting 39% from 3 point range in his second season. The Tigers unfortunately lost Ababou and Mirza due to graduation, and the inexperienced Tigers were unable to return to the Final Four and ended 7th in the standings at 4–10.
Teng's third season saw him average 13.5 points per game, 4.7 rebounds per game, and 2.4 assists per game. The Tigers finished the season in fourth place with an 8–6 record and returned to the Final Four with Jeric Fortuna, Chris Camus, and rookie center Karim Abdul. The Tigers lost 66-69 to the eventual champions Ateneo Blue Eagles, but they were unable to advance any further.
Teng was named as the co-captain of the Tigers in his fourth season, with Jeric Fortuna as the captain. Teng led the Tigers to victory 89-71 after coming back from a double digit lead against the Bulldogs. Teng was able to clinch a Final Four spot after defeating the UE Red Warriors 87-75 to clinch a Final Four berth. With a 10–4 record in the elimination round, the Tigers were able to advance to the UAAP Finals against the Ateneo Blue Eagles, but the Blue Eagles were defeated 2–0 as the Red Tigers reached their five-peat. Teng averaged 13.6 points per game, 4.3 rebounds per game, 1.3 assists per game, 38 percent shooting from the field, 38% shooting from 3 point range, and 70% shooting from the free throw line.
Teng will play a key role in the Philippine Collegiate Champions League later this year, defeating both the Letran Knights and the Adamson Soaring Falcons to advance to the PCCL Final Four with the Ateneo Blue Eagles, San Beda Red Lions, and the Southwestern U Cobras. The Tigers will finish in the Final Four with a 2–1 record, setting up a rematch with the Blue Eagles in the Finals, where the Tigers exacted their revenge against the Eagles after winning the National Champions after a tense three game series. Teng will be named to the Mythical Five squad for the tournament later this year, alongside fellow graduate Jeric Fortuna and Karim Abdul, Teng will also be named the tournament's Finals MVP.
Teng was named as the captain of the Tigers by Clark Bautista in his last season. Teng was one of the top candidates for the season MVP, despite being one of the top candidates. However, he sustained a shoulder injury after being struck by Bulldogs forward Jeoffrey Javillonar in their first round match against the NU Bulldogs. Teng will miss five games due to his injury while the Tigers struggled in his absence. Teng was back in the lineup in the second round of the Bulldogs, but he re-injured himself, this time on his right hamstring. Teng will make a quick recovery and then face the Ateneo Blue Eagles in their last slot in the Final Four, winning 82-74. For the second straight season, the Tigers will thrash the top seeded Bulldogs in two straight games. In the finals, the Tigers will face the De La Salle Green Archers, in which Jeric fought his younger brother Jeron for the championship. In the three game series, he was brilliant in his match against the Archers as he led the Tigers in scoring. However, the Tigers will fall short of the Archers who came back from losing Game 1 to win two straight games on their way to their first title since 2007. Teng had a 14.9 point average, 3.7 rebounds per game, and 1.9 assists per game on 41% shooting from the field and 78% shooting from the free throw line in his last season with the Tigers.
Professional career
Teng's first appearance with the Growling Tigers prompted him to sign the 2013 PBA draft. He was selected in the second round of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters' second round, 12th overall in the 2013 PBA Draft. He appeared in his first game with the Elasto Painters in Davao City against the Alaska Aces as part of the Luzon-Visayas-Mindanao triple header to kick off the new PBA season. During the 2016 Commissioner's Cup, Rain or Shine smothered Alaska 4–2.
He was waived by the Elasto Painters on November 3, 2016.
