Personal life

Shimizu was briefly in a friendship with Ione Skye in the mid-1990s.

Shimizu expressed a close relationship with Madonna in January 2007, saying that Madonna would take her to exotic destinations around the world for sexual liaisons. "I was her little 'booty call' and was open for sex sessions at any time of the day or night." She had a celebrity crush with Angelina Jolie, which Jolie admitted in a 1997 interview when she said, "I fell in love with her the first time I saw her." Shimizu participated in a staged wedding ceremony with Rebecca Loos on Sky's "Power Lesbians on LOGO in the United States in 2005 to protest America's gay marriage laws. A few years ago, the two people were engaged for a brief period of time.

Shimizu was approached to model for Calvin Klein's CK1 fragrance ads and model Calvin Klein fashions while working as a mechanic. She appeared in the Banana Republic's "American Beauty" campaign later this year.

She was the first Asian model to walk for the highly coveted catwalk Prada and later became the first minority model to open the show.

Shimizu and Angelina Jolie were two of Foxfire's main stars. She appeared in Jamie Babbit's 2007 film Itty Bitty Titty Committee as a supporter. Shimizu appeared in the third season of the Here TV original series Dante's Cove.

Shimizu appeared on Tyra Bank's reality show America's Next Top Model in 2005. She appeared on Bravo TV's Make Me a Supermodel season two as a member of the judging committee.
