Early life

Hewitt was born in Waco, Texas, to Patricia Mae (née Shipp), a speech-language pathologist, and Herbert Daniel Hewitt, a medical technician. She grew up in Nolanville, Texas, and has kinship links in some areas of Arkansas. Hewitt and her older brother Todd were raised by their mother after their parents divorced.

Hewitt was attracted to music as a child, which culminated in her first encounters with the entertainment industry. At a livestock show, she performed "The Greatest Love of All" at age three. She entertained an audience with her version of "Help Me Make It Through the Night" at a restaurant-dance hall the following year. She had tap dancing and ballet in her portfolio by age five. She joined the Texas Show Team, which also toured the Soviet Union at nine years old.

She and her mother moved to Los Angeles with her mother to pursue a career in both acting and singing at age ten, at the suggestion of talent scouts and after winning the title of "Texas Our Little Miss Talent Winner," and after winning the honor of "Texas Our Little Miss Talent Winner," she moved to Los Angeles with her mother to pursue a career in both acting and singing. Jonathan Neville, a natural scout and mentor who recommended Hewitt for her role in Party of Five, was a student at Lincoln High School in Los Angeles.

Hewitt dated numerous celebrities, including Joey Lawrence, Will Friedle, Carson Daly, Rich Cronin, Patrick Wilson, John Mayer, and Jamie Kennedy from the 1990s to the 2000s.

Napolis was charged with six felonies connected to the incidents. Napolis pleaded guilty and was released on probation under the condition that she was banned from interacting with both Spielberg and Hewitt.

Jennifer Love Hewitt Career

Acting career

Hewitt appeared in more than twenty television ads, some for Mattel toys, after he migrated to Los Angeles. Her first break came as a child actress on the Disney Channel variety show Kids Incorporated (1989–1991), which earned her three Young Artist Award nominations. In 1992, she appeared in the Live Action video short Dance! Barbie (1992), a Buena Vista company, was released by Buena Vista, and she appeared in Munchie's first film role in which she played Andrea, the bullying youth boy's love interest. She appeared in Little Miss Millions as a wealthy nine-year old who runs away from her stepmother to discover her true mother, and in Sister Act 2: Back in the Habits, she had her first acting role a year later. In a pilot for NBC titled Running Wilde (1993), Hewitt played Pierce Brosnan's daughter, whose reports followed his own wild auto adventures, but the pilot was not picked up and the pilot never aired. Hewitt appeared in several short-lived television series, including Fox's Shaky Ground (1992–1993), ABC's The Byrds of Paradise (1994), and McKenna (1994–95).

Hewitt made the jump to teenage idol status after landing the role of Sarah Reeves Merrin on the popular Fox show Party of Five (1995–99). Originally cast for a nine-episode arc in season two, the audience and producers were so excited that she became a series regular, that she continued to appear in the role until the show's sixth and final season. Amy Lippman, a co-creator, once said, "She was a mad genius." I don't know if she'll be able to work up a slew of steam here, but I don't know if she'll be able to cry.' She wasn't running to her trailer [between takes] to smoke cigarettes or play with a toy poodle. She was reading books and planning her future. Hewitt received nominations for a Kids' Choice Award, a Teen Choice Award, and a YoungStar Award for her efforts.

Hewitt became a film actress after the 1996 release of I Know What You Did Last Summer (1996), in which she appeared opposite Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, and Freddie Prinze, Jr., portraying Julie James, the final girl. She was chosen because of her "ability to project vulnerability," according to producer Jim Gillespie, and writer Kevin Williamson unanimously agreed on. Although the film received mixed reviews, an Entertainment Weekly columnist praised Hewitt's performance, saying she knows how to "scream with soul." The film, which was budgeted at US$17 million, earned US$125 million globally. For her role as a Young Artist Award nominee for Best Performance in a Feature Film — Leading Young Actress and Favorite Female Newcomer — and the Blockbuster Entertainment Award for Best Performance in a Feature Film. She appeared in the sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998), which, although not as popular as the first film, took in more funds on its first weekend.

In the teen comedy Can't Wait (1998), Hewitt starred Amanda Beckett, the most popular girl in school and the senior class prom queen. Hewitt was "so likable" that it's impossible not to have at least a minor rooting interest" in her character, according to critic James Berardinelli, and the film's success in the North American domestic box office was a moderate commercial success. Hewitt appeared in another 98 teen comedies as the annoyingly sweet ex-girlfriend of a college student working in a pizza joint. She appeared and produced Time of Your Life, a Party of Five spin-off based on her character as she moved to New York City in 1999 to learn more about her biological relatives. Despite Hewitt's renown at the time, the show was cut after only half of the season had aired.

Hewitt appeared in The Audrey Hepburn Story (2000), a biographical drama television film based on actress and humanitarian Audrey Hepburn's life, Hewitt appeared in the title role and served as an executive producer. Steven Robman, a filmmaker who had previously directed her in Part of Five, had been chosen for the position. On ABC, March 27, 2000, the film premiered as a three-hour film and attracted mixed reactions. According to Entertainment Weekly, Hewitt had "brave" to act in the role and called her "excellent at conveying Hepburn's academic modesty," while Hepburn's was "impossibly wrong," and the Baltimore Sun review found that "Hewitt has no physical appearance, but Hepburn was the physical embodiment of it."

Hewitt appeared in the romantic comedy Heartbreakers (2001), playing a mother-daughter team in an elaborate plot to swindle wealthy men out of their money. Hewitt "spends the entire film with her treasures on display, perhaps as product placement for the Wonderbra," Roger Ebert said, while BBC.com stated that she "hewitt" lacks the necessary duplicity for her character and is too transparently agreeable to bitch convincingly, effectively reducing her to eye candy among the professionals. Despite that, she has the right cleavage for the job, and there are bound to be legions of men thankful for her alone." The film earned a modest US$57.7 million globally.

In the action comedy The Tuxedo (2002), Hewitt appeared as a genius scientist with aspirations of field work alongside Jackie Chan. Hewitt "has portrayed a Chan-like sweetness in her previous roles," she was disappointed that her character is "a tumbling, high-strung shrew who's immediately repellent" rather than an amusing sidekick in other Hollywood films, according to Variety's Robert Koehler. The film earned US$104.4 million worldwide. She appeared in two direct-to-DVD animated films, The Hunchback of Notre Dame II and The Adventures of Tom Thumb and Thumbelina, in 2002.

Hewitt appeared as a musician in If Only, Ebenezer Scrooge's love interest in the television film A Christmas Carol, and Dr. Liz Wilson in the live-action comedy Garfield in 2004. Garfield became Hewitt's highest-grossing film to date, with a worldwide gross of US$200 million.

On the CBS television series Ghost Whisperer, Melinda Gordon, a woman with the ability to see and communicate with ghosts, appeared on CBS from September 23, 2005 to May 21, 2010. She also worked as an editor and penned three episodes, including the 100th one. "If [television] really wants a success built around this actress, someone in Hollywood should pay attention to her chameleonic and comedic role in Heartbreakers, rather than something that is transparent." Nonetheless, the series became a ratings hit and Hewitt received two Saturn Awards for Best Television Actress. She appeared in The Truth About Love, a happily married English woman in 2005, and a 28-year-old advertising executive more concerned about being a well-known socialite than a good actress in the television film Confessions of a Sociopathic Social Climber.

Hewitt reprised her role as Dr. Liz Wilson for Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties (2006), which, although it did not do as well as its predecessor, still had a decent box office gross. She's next film project was Shortcut to Happiness, in which she appeared as The Devil opposite Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin. When investor Jed Barron was found guilty of bank fraud while the film was still in production, it became an asset in a federal bank fraud lawsuit. The film was eventually purchased by The Yari Group and was finally released in 2007. She made a cameo appearance in Tropic Thunder in 2008 and reunited with Freddie Prinze Jr. in the animated film Delgo, which earned only US$694,782 in North America.

In the Lifetime film The Client List, Hewitt portrayed a good-hearted barista and a struggling prostitute. Although a critic believed Hewitt did "a remarkably good job of being seen-it-all exasperated and mentally mature without going giggly-girly" in Café, Entertainment Weekly's Ken Tucker found that the actress was able to sell The Client List to the audience due to her "talent for conveying sincerity and charm." For the latter, she received a Golden Globe award for Best Actress – Miniseries or Television Film.

In the Hallmark Hall of Fame film The Lost Valentine (2011), Hewitt starred as a journalist, opposite Betty White. Although reviewers unanimously applauded White's success, Variety said: "The same cannot be said of Hewitt, who, in her latest TV film phase, can be put to better use as a mom turned hooker in Lifetime's The Client List." The film received its time period and debuted as the most watched Hallmark movie in four years with 14.53 million viewers.

Hewitt, along with Ivan Sergei and Joel Moore in the independent comedy Jewtopia, and as an erotic massagist in the television series The Client List, portrayed an erotic massagist. The series, which was based on a 2010 television film of the same name, ran for two seasons, with Hewitt playing a slightly different character in a slightly different setting from the film.

In the tenth season of Criminal Minds, Hewitt played Kate Callahan, an undercover agent who joins the BAU between 2014 and 2015. She resigned from the series due to her second pregnancy and decided to postpone a career hiatus for the next three years. Hewitt wrote an article in Elle magazine, saying, 'I was looking in the mirror, talking with myself, saying, 'Hey, we started something,' remember? We were supposed to take a step back. "Let's do this," says the narrator.

After leaving an abusive situation, Hewitt played Maddie Buckley, an ER nurse working as an 9-1-1 operator on the Fox police procedural 9-1-1 beginning in 2018. "Maddie has a toughness to her," she said describing her character. However, she is also empathetic and sensitive. People will be able to concentrate on the phone, but the callers' agony and anguish will be felt [once she hangs up]"
