Jean-Paul Boetius Life

Jean-Paul Boëtius (born 22 March 1994) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a winger for German club 1.

FSV Mainz 05. He made his debut for hometown club Feyenoord in 2012 at the age of 18 and remained at the club for three years before moving to Swiss club FC Basel.

At Basel, he failed to establish himself.

Following a loan to Belgian side Genk in the second half of the 2016–17 season, he returned to Feyenoord. Having represented the Netherlands at various youth levels, he made one appearance for the senior team in 2014.

Personal life

Born in the Netherlands, Boëtius is of Surinamese descent. Boëtius is a cousin of Urby Emanuelson, another professional football player, who currently plays for FC Utrecht.

In September 2022 he was diagnosed with tesicular cancer.

Club career

On the day of 18, Botius made his Feyenoord debut, after being named in the starting lineup in De Klassieker, the Netherlands' biggest football rivalry, against long-time rivals Ajax. Botius was a surprise addition to the starting lineup and ended up scoring the equalizer in a game that ended in a 2–2 draw to cap off a good debut performance. He was a right winger for the Rotterdam-based team right away. Botius played in 20 league games, scoring 4 goals and giving 2 assists in his first season in the Economia. Feyenoord spent the 2012–13 season on 3rd place and secured a spot in the Europa League play-off's for the next season. However, Botius' season was ended prematurely after suffering a knee injury during a training session in April.

Botius missed the 2013–14 season due to a knee injury. In the 62nd minute against NEC Nijmegen, he made his season debut on September 15, 2013 coming off the bench. Bostius scored a goal giving his team a 2–1 lead just five minutes after entering the pitch. Botius scored 10 goals in 29 appearances during the season. He came in third place among the league's assist leaders with a total of 9 assists. Feyenoord ended the season in second place, only behind Ajax, in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round.

It was reported that Botius had been signed by Swiss side Basel on August 2nd, 2015. On the 19th of August, he made his first team appearance for Basel in the 2015-16 UEFA Champions League play-off round, a 2–2 draw. In the 3–1 away victory over FC Lugano on August 22, he made his 2015–16 Swiss Super League debut on August 22nd. Urs Fischer Botius, the head coach, won the Swiss Super League championship at the end of the season. It was their seventh championship in a row and their 19th championship title in total. Botius was loaned to Belgian club K.R.C. on January 31, 2017. Genk will be inactive for the remainder of the season.

Botius will return to the club on a three-year contract, according to Feyenoord on June 23. Feyenoord defeated AZ Alkmaar 3–0 on April 22, 2018, winning the 2017-18 KNVB Cup final 3–0.
