Jacobus Antonius Peter Jachessen (born 22 April 1989) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays for NEC and the Dutch national team.
Cillessen joined NEC's youth team in 2001, making his professional debut for them in 2010 and moving to Ajax a year later. In six seasons with Ajax, he has won 141 games, including three Ethnic titles. He joined Barcelona for the first €13 million in 2016.
Cillessen received his first call-up for the Netherlands national team in May 2011. He made his international debut in 2013 and was the country's first-choice goalkeeper at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Club career
Cillessen was born in Nijmegen and grew up in Groesbeek, near Nijmegen. He began playing for the youth squad of De Treffers, a local club, before being recruited into the NEC/FC Oss youth academy in 2001. He signed his first professional contract with NEC in 2008 and began playing for the reserves. Cillessen agreed to a new two-year deal at NEC in 2010.
Cillessen made his senior debut against SC Heerenveen on August 28, 2010, after an injury to first-choice goalkeeper Gábor Babos, who was voted man of the match. Even though Babos returned from injury, Cillessen managed to keep his position in the first team and signed a two-year contract extension that committed him to NEC until 2014. Cillessen was named Gelderland Footballer of the Year at the end of the 2011–11 season.
On August 27, 2011, it was announced that NEC and Ajax had signed a deal for the transfer of Cillessen to the Amsterdam club for an estimated €3 million. He agreed to a five-year deal, committing him to Ajax until 2016.
In a 2nd round KNVB Cup away match against VV Noordwijk, Cillessen made his first appearance for Ajax on September 21, 2011. He played the entire match, conceding only to Sijbren Bartlema in the 66th minute of the 3–1 away victory. He made his first league appearance for Ajax in a 2011–12 Ethnic match against Feyenoord, and he came as a 66th-minute replacement for right back Gregory van der Wiel after starting goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer was refused a red card. With Ajax down to ten men, Cillessen helped Ajax maintain a 1-1 draw after Jan Vertonghen tied the match just minutes after Vermeer's dismissal.

International career
In October 2010, Cillessen was called up by the Netherlands national under-21 team, by Cor Pot, the national team coach, for the 2011 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualification play-offs against Ukraine.
Cillessen was named in the pre-selection for the senior Netherlands squad's friendly matches against Uruguay and Brazil in the 2010–2011 season. Cillessen was eventually selected by manager Bert van Marwijk for the Netherlands' friendly trip to South America. Cillessen was selected from a provisional list of 36 players for the UEFA Euro 2012 tournament on May 7th, one of nine uncapped players to be selected by Van Marwijk as part of the preliminary squad.
After several call-ups in the past, Cillessen earned his first cap for the Netherlands national team under new manager Louis van Gaal. In a friendly match against Indonesia that ended in a 3–0 away win for the Dutch, Cillessen played the first half.
