Career

Righton taught Simon Taylor-Davis how to play the guitar while attending the High School in Stratford-upon-Avon. Righton began as a music instructor while preparing for a career as a performer. He attended the Benicàssim festival, where he later met Simon Taylor-Davis, and Jamie Reynolds in New Cross, London, shortly after. Reynolds lost his career and bought a studio kit with his redundancy funds. The three men began to record and perform live under the banner of "Klaxons (Not Centaurs), which was inspired by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti's "The Futurist Manifesto. Finnigan Kidd, a drummer, performed with this group until Kidd left and Steffan Halperin joined in 2006.

In 2006, the Klaxons signed to Polydor Records. They revealed in 2014 that this tour would be their last after many successful tours.

In 2016, James Righton joined Marathon Artists/House Anxiety under the moniker Shock Machine. Righton's latest project was revealed in March with the unveiling of the video for the first single, Shock Machine, directed by Saam Farahmand. In a cabin in the south of France with French producer James Ford, the eponymous introduction to this project was caught. On his four-track debut EP Open Up The Sky, Saam Farahmand's first single Shock Machine was released on March 8, 2016, with accompanying video directed by Saam Farahmand. Righton unveiled the single Lost in the Shadow following the EP's debut. Soulwax's Open Up the Sky and Shock Machine, as well as Beyond the Wizards Sleeve, were both remixes. On August 25, 2017 Shock Machine's debut album was released.
