He began to show a great interest in music as a child, growing up in a household where the arts played a significant role in daily life, with a father who came from a family of musicians. "All my really good memories from when I was a kid, going to the beach, hanging out with my parents on Sundays, all of whom are addicted to Juan Luis' music," he said. Vicente García Career

Career

Garcia began his career in 2002 as a member of the Dominican group Calor Urbano, with whom he was a singer and composer. The group's album was released in 2002 and has received many accolades. Juan Luis Guerra's tour revived Garca's interest in traditional Dominican music and inspired him to incorporate genres such as bachata and merengue into his music. "I soon found that Dominican music has this ability to make people dance, and I saw how people became so interested in our culture [through Guerra's music]" He returned to the Dominican Republic in 2010 after touring with Calor Urbano and announcing that he would no longer be involved in Calor Urbano.

Garca signed the brand Capitol Latin in Hollywood, California, where he debuted Melodrama, his first solo album. On August 25, he unveiled his first album, "Cómo Has Logrado." The album was released on October 26. Garca debuted as a soloist in front of over 14,000 people in the KQ Live Concert event in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where he appeared with Juan Luis Guerra, Wisin y Yandel, Gilberto Santa Rosa, and Kany Garca. He appeared in the Casandra Awards on March 22, 2011.

Melodrama, his debut album, mixed bachata rhythms with stylistic influences from other genres around the world, such as bolero. A La Mar, Garca's second album, he began working with Calle 13 producer Visitante. Garca was inspired by the collaboration to deviate from traditional bachata and include a number of genres into the album: "I [didn't] want to be the guy who only does Caribbean music," the musician recalled. At the 2017 Latin Grammy Awards, Garca received three accolades, including Best New Artist. At the awards, A La Mar's song "Bachata en Kingston" received the Best Tropical Song award. The Los Angeles Times named A La Mar as the best album of the decade by any Dominican artist.

Garca continued his collaboration with Visitante on the experimental 2018 album Trending Tropics, which received critical acclaim. Both the pair experimented with a wide variety of musical styles on the record, ranging from "hip-hop to reggae, from merengue to disco, from choral music to fuzzy African rock. The lyrical content on Trending Topics was inspired by the human-technology interaction, and includes work with Vetusta Morla, iLe, Ana Tijoux, Nidia Góngora.

Candela's 2019 debut was influenced by merengue, a genre Garca calls "the most important rhythm of the Dominican Republic." Garca went to a state-owned music library to listen to preserved merengue phonographs, inspired by his inspiration. The singer learned about the variety of merengue, including Haitian merengue derived from Angolan music, through his studies. Garca hoped that by incorporating these styles on his album, he would bring a "universalist perspective" to his music. Candela was nominated for Best Contemporary Tropical Album at the 2019 Latin Grammy Awards, though the song "Ah Ah" was nominated for Year of the Year.
