James Murray Life

James Murray (born 22 January 1975), also known as Jim Murray, is an English actor, singer, and fundraiser.

Early life

Murray was born in Manchester. He was given a classics scholarship by Malvern College and has a degree in film. In 1927, his great-grandfather, Richard Hollins Murray, invented the reflecting lens.

Personal life

Following a two-year romance, Murray married Sarah Parish in Hampshire on December 15, 2007. It was announced on January 18, 2008, that Parish was pregnant with their first child. Ella-Jayne's daughter, who was born 5 weeks premature in May 2008, died in January 2009 at the age of 8 months due to a congenital heart defect.

Nell's daughter was born on November 21, 2009.

Ella-Jayne, Parish, and Murray began raising funds for the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Southampton General Hospital, where she was cared for. As a result of their efforts, Murray Parish Trust was established in 2014 to improve overall paediatric emergency services in Southern England. The trust's fundraising has so far, including a new, state-of-the-art children's Emergency and Trauma Department.

Earlier in his career, he appeared in a string of film and television programs including Roger-Roger (1999), legal drama series Others' Children (2004), Anders & Lovers (2003), a Granada production of The Sittaford Mystery (2004) as Peter, All the King's Men (1999) as Pvt Will Needham (1999) and Phoenix Blue (1999) as Rick. He also appeared in Channel 4's 20 Things to Do Before You're 30, (2003) as Liam Carney and Glen and BBC One's season four of Cutting It (2005).

Murray appeared in the ITV science fiction series Primeval as Stephen Hart, Nick Cutter's lab technician, in both series one (2007) and series two (2008).

In It's Alive (2008), a reversal of Larry Cohen's '70s horror film, Murray played the leading role as the father, Frank Davis.

He appeared in Kröd Mändoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire, a comedy fantasy film for Comedy Central and BBC Two that began airing in April 2009. Ralph Longshaft is his name.

In the US James was a leader in the CBS spy caper series CHAOS from 2010 to 2011. Billy Collins was the character in his story.

In the second series of Defiance, he appeared as Mayor Niles Pottinger, the first series of Defiance premiered on June 19, 2014. Murray appeared in one episode (ep.3 Dead Air) of the third series, which aired on June 27, 2015.

In the completely revamped show Suspects as DCI Daniel Drummond, which aired from 3 to 31 August 2016, all six episodes) he took over from Fay Ripley as the lead DCI.

In the three-part ITV supernatural series HIM, Edward appeared as the father.

Murray appeared in The Doge of Venice in season 1 of Netflix's Medici before appearing in an undercover role opposite Polly Walker in BBC1's Age Before Beauty.

In his last role alongside Nina Sosanya in his short film In Familia, James directed his old friend Robert Hardy CBE.

Caleb appeared in Ryan Reynolds' film 6 Underground, which was released in December 2019. In the ITV series McDonald & Dodds, Chief Superintendent John Houseman was the chief superintendent.

In 2021, James was cast as Colonel Chic Harding in Apple TV's WW2 epic bomber drama Masters of the Air. Cary Joji Fukunaga and Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks produced the series.

Murray curated and co-presented ITV's Robson and Jim's Icelandic flyfishing expedition (July 2021), a passion project about fly fishing's healing qualities set in Iceland's bountiful rivers.
