Music career
Shaddix is Papa Roach's founding member. In 1993, Dave Buckner, bassist Will James, and guitarist Ben Luther formed the band. Luther was recalled by current guitarist Jerry Horton, and Tobin Esperance had already replaced Will James after his departure in 1996. Dave Buckner's position in 2007 was filled by Tony Palermo, leaving Jacoby as the only original member of the band. Papa Roach, Shaddix's step-grandfather, Howard William Roatch, who went by the name "Papa Roach," derives from Shaddix's step-grandfather, Howard William Roatch, who went by the name "Papa Roach." Howard died of suicide in 2006 after being diagnosed with an unidentified form of advanced-stage cancer. In his memory, he wrote "Roses on My Grave." Papa Roach recorded and released Potatoes For Christmas, their first album on major label Infest. The first full-length album, Old Friends from Young Years, was released in 1997.
Shaddix's 2004 album Getting Away with Murder changed to using raping as a whole. Shaddix said in an interview in 2004, that he was disenchanted with hip hop and what it represented in the media, and that "I just want to be a musician." He also stated in 2009 that it was safe to assume he will not be rapping again. Shaddix resurfaced on the album The Connection in 2012, but the connection was lost in 2012. There were some songs on their 2017 album Crooked Teeth that featured rapping. In 2021, we looked back on his and Papa Roach's nu metal experience, noting that "I love being one of the forefathers of nu metal," says the artist, "we've been able to live it and commemorate it at the same time."
Shaddix performed new vocals on a remix of The Hu's "Wolf Totem" on December 13, 2019.
Shaddix appeared in Fight the Sky, a post-hardcore band from 2002 to 2004, under the name 'John Doe'. The band was created as a side project of Shaddix, in which he would showcase the heavier side of his vocals. Shaddix, as the lead guitarist and backing vocalist, Ali Abrishami as the bass guitarist and backing vocalist, and Jay Ingram on the drums and percussion were among the band's lineup members, as the lead guitarist and backing vocalist, Wade Khail, as the lead guitarist and backing vocalist, and backing vocalist. Between January and February 2004, the band had signed a record deal with Papa Roach's self-owned company El Tonal Records and opened Velvet Tone Studios in Sacramento, California, to record their debut album Seven Deadly Songs. There have been no official announcements regarding either the album's date or the future of Fight the Sky.
