Mikaela Shiffrin won her 21st career giant slalom at the World Cup Finals Sunday as the American standout ended the season with yet another record. The victory moved Shiffrin past Vreni Schneider, a week after matching the Swiss skier's mark of 20 World Cup GS victories. The American has won seven of the last eight events and took the GS world title last month. The overall record, between men and women, is held by Swedish great Ingemar Stenmark, who won 46 giant slaloms in the 1970s and 80s.

American ski sensation Mikaela Shiffrin has made history by setting the outright World Cup record for most career victories after claiming win No. 87 in a slalom on Saturday. The 27-year-old joined Ingemar Stenmark, who competed in the 1970s and 80s, on 86 victories following success in a giant slalom on Friday. Saturday's record-breaking result saw the American take her sixth slalom victory of the season and it was a record-extending 53rd career win in the discipline.

Mikaela Shiffrin dominated a women's giant slalom in Are on Friday to equal Swedish great Ingemar Stenmark's all-time record of 86 World Cup wins and complete a season's hat-trick of crystal globes. The U.S. skier can take the outright record on Saturday if she wins a slalom in the Swedish resort where she took her first victory in 2012. Whereas Stenmark's success in the 1970s and 80s was limited to slalom and giant slalom, Shiffrin has also won in downhill, super-G, combined and parallel as well as the two technical disciplines.
