Ian Buchanan (born 16 June 1957) is a Scottish television actor who has appeared on numerous American soap operas, including Twin Peaks, GM Hospital, Port Charles, The Bold and the Beautiful, All My Children, and Days of Our Lives.
Career
Buchanan was born in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire. Buchanan's first big daytime appearance came in 1986, when he appeared in the role of Duke Lavery, who he portrayed until 1989. Buchanan appeared on television shows from 1988 to 1990, including It's Garry Shandling's Show as Ian McFyfer from 1988 to 1990, and Twin Peaks as Dick Tremayne from 1990 to 1991.
In the Columbo television series episode Columbo Cries Wolf, he played a wealthy Playboy-style magazine publisher. Stan Kovacs, the main villain, appeared in episode 4 of the 1990 film The Flash as the main villain. He appeared on Quantum Leap's 1993 film "Blood Moon."
In 1993, Buchananan returned to daytime and appeared on The Bold and the Beautiful in his second most well-known daytime role as Dr. James Warwick, which he played until 1999. Buchanan has since reprised his role as Warwick in several guest appearances from 2004 to 2011. Following the conclusion of his regular appearance as Warwick, Buchanan made a short appearance on Days of Our Lives in 2001 as Lord Sheraton.
He appeared on the cast of Port Charles as the sinister Joshua Temple until the show's end in 2003.
Buchanan appeared in "All My Children" in 2005 as Dr. Greg Madden, a fertility specialist involved in Erica Kane's turbulent "un-abortion" storyline, as well as the abduction of the daughter of Dixie Martin (Cady McClain) and Tad Martin (Michael E. Knight). When his character came to an end due to being dead, Buchanan's time as Madden came to an end on July 5th, 2006.
Buchanan appeared on Days of Our Lives in the newly created contract role of Ian McAllister, Madison James' husband (Sarah Brown) and a former Kate Roberts DiMera lover (Lauren Koslow), but was dismissed in August due to a change in the series's direction.
After a 23-year absence, Buchanan returned to GE Hospital as Duke Lavery on August 27, 2012. It was announced on November 12 that Buchanan was playing a dual role. The real Duke hostage at a clinic in Lucerne, Switzerland, was actually Cesar Faison disguised, and Faison was held hostage by the fake Duke. On July 5, 2017 it was announced that James Warwick will reprise his role on The Bold and the Beautiful.
