Career
Barr played for Wellington Street Boys' Brigade, Harryville Amateurs, Ballyclare Comrades, Cliftonville, Loughborough College, Everton, Coleraine, Ballymena United, Ballymena United, Linfield, Cambridge United, and Cambridge United before becoming player-manager at Ely City.
Barr's goal scoring feats at Linfield attracted a lot of interest. Despite other clubs' showing interest, Coventry City's manager Jimmy Hill secured his transfer. When Barr was a Linfield player, he was capped in Northern Ireland.
Barr was a member of Northern Ireland's amateur, Northern Ireland B, and Northern Ireland. He was a member of the 1960 Summer Olympics but did not make it to the tournament.
