Gardner spent part of her time at the Tivoli Theater, where she did everything from selling tickets to making popcorn. "Setting the tone in her life," she said later. Gardner graduated from Notre Dame de Sion, an all-girls Catholic high school. "Most Likely to be a cast member of Saturday Night Live" was voted by her peers in her senior year. Gardner followed in the footsteps of a friend and enrolled at the University of Kansas for two years before transferring to the University of Missouri. Heidi Gardner Career

Career

Gardner dropped out of college and moved to Los Angeles, where she spent nine years at a hair salon. She saved up $600 over a year before moving. A friend of hers encouraged her to attend a performance at The Groundlings Theatre, where she was inspired to become an actor. Gardner joined community workshops to learn the fundamentals of improvising due to her lack of acting experience. Gardner was accepted into the Groundlings basic class and became familiar.

Gardner joined the Sunday Company in 2014, but a year later, after a promotion to the Main Company, she left her career as a hairstylist to concentrate on acting. She became a voice actress during that time, appearing on animated series like Bratz, SuperMansion, and Mike Tyson Mysteries. Gardner appeared in Saturday Night Live (SNL) for its forty-third season.

Gardner was recruited to play Leonor in Ben Falcone's Life of the Party, alongside Melissa McCarthy, after her first appearance on SNL.
