Hannah Hauxwell Life

Hannah Hauxwell (1 August 1926 – January 28, 2018) was an English farmer who was the subject of several television documentaries.

She first came to public attention after being featured in an ITV documentary titled Too Long a Winter, which was produced by Yorkshire Television and directed by Barry Cockcroft, chronicling the almost unlivable conditions of farmers in the High Pennines in winter.

Later life

Hauxwell was able to relocate to a little cottage in Cotherstone, less than five miles (8 km) from Low Birk Hatt Farm, where the meadows, designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, are now Hannah's Meadows and operated by Durham Wildlife Trust after selling her farm and land. In 2008, Hannah Hauxwell—80 Years in the Dales (W. R. Mitchell) was published. Hannah Hauxwell-An Extraordinary Life, A Winter Too Long, A Winter Too Many, and Innocent Abroad were all included in a new DVD. In March 2008, Hauxwell was interviewed on Woman's Hour. She was interviewed by the Yorkshire Post in honor of her 85th birthday. She said she was still living a frugal life and continued to listen intently on radio stations.

She went from a care home in Barnard Castle in 2016 to a nursing home in West Auckland the following year. She died on January 30, 2018. Hauxwell was laid to rest in Romaldkirk cemetery, not far from Low Birk Hatt, following a funeral service at Barnard Castle Methodist Church.
