Hamidou Diallo Career

High school career

Diallo attended John Bowne High School in Flushing, New York, during his freshman and sophomore years. He has also attended Putnam Science Academy. He averaged 17.1 points, 6.6 rebounds per game, and 2.7 assists as a sophomore. Diallo played on the Under Armour Association Circuit (UAA), for the New York Jayhawks, where he averaged 22.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Diallo was admitted to both the NBPA Top 100 and Adidas Nations camps later this summer.

Diallo attended Putnam Science Academy in Putnam, Connecticut, prior to his Junior Year. While leading Putnam to a (35–7) overall record as a senior, he averaged 17.0 points per game and 4.0 rebounds. Diallo debuted on the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) Circuit in the 2016 summer and joined the AAU team, New York Rens, on the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) Circuit. While leading the Rens to the season-end Peach Jam, he averaged 18.6 points and 2.1 assists. He averaged 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists as a senior in 2016-2017, leading the Mustangs to a (38–3) record. By Scout.com, Rivals.com, and ESPN, Diallo was ranked as one of the top recruiters in the 2017 recruiting class. Diallo was heavily recruited by six universities, The University of Kentucky, Indiana University, The University of Kansas, Syracuse University, and the University of Connecticut.

College career

Diallo announced his enrollment in the University of Kentucky on January 7, 2017. He will be involved with the team in workouts, but will not be able to play a single game this year due to his late admission to the program. Diallo was one of the first 182 players to register for the 2017 NBA Draft despite not having played a single college game in the process.

Diallo revealed on May 24, 2017 that he would return to Kentucky to play in the 2017–2018 season, despite draft scouts' comments that he might have been selected in the first round of the draft that year.

Diallo had season averages of 10.0 points per game and 3.6 rebounds per game.

Professional career

The Brooklyn Nets selected Diallo with the 45th pick in the 2018 NBA draft on June 21, 2018. His draft rights were then sold to the Charlotte Hornets and then the Oklahoma City Thunder, respectively. The Oklahoma City Thunder announced on July 28, 2018 that Diallo had signed him to a rookie scale deal. Diallo made his NBA debut in October 16, 2018 by coming off the bench in a 108–108 loss to the Golden State Warriors, losing four points, an assist, and a steal. In a 113-117 loss to the Sacramento Kings on November 19, 2018, Diallo scored his career-high 18 points, a rebound, and an assist.

Diallo was the first Oklahoma City Thunder player to win the NBA Slam Dunk Contest on February 16, 2019. He jumped over Shaquille O'Neal, did the "honey dip" dunk popular by Vince Carter, and even wore a Superman undershirt when hanging from the rim. He jumped over Quavo, who held the ball above his head, and finished it with two hands in another dunk.

Diallo was traded to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk and a future second-round draft pick on March 13, 2021.

Diallo's rookie scale extension with the Pistons was announced on August 19, 2021. He was out for the remainder of the 2021-22 season with an avulsion fracture in his left index finger.

National team career

Diallo competed for the under-18 United States national basketball team that took gold in the FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship tournament in 2016. He gained bronze at the 2017 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup in Egypt.
