Carsen Edwards Career

Early life and high school career

Edwards was born in Houston, Texas, and attended Atascocita High School. As a sophomore, he first concentrated on basketball and football. He averaged 23.6 points, 4.9 assists, and 4.9 rebounds in a game as a junior, while being named Player of the Year by the Houston Chronicle. Edwards led Atascocita to 26.3 points, 5.1 assists, and 4.9 rebounds per outing in his senior year, earning MaxPreps All-America Fourth Team and first-team All-State recognition.

By ESPN, Rivals.com, and 247Sports.com, he was rated as a four-star recruit and ranked #88 in the Class of 2016.

College career

Edwards made an immediate impact as a freshman at Purdue, scoring in all 35 games (21 starts) and averaging 10.3 points, 2.6 boards, and 1.8 assists in a game. He was the only rookie in the Big Tension to finish the 2016–17 season with at least 45 three-pointers made (49) and 35 steals (36).

In a 93–86 victory over Illinois on February 22, 2018, Edwards scored a career-high 40 points while shooting 11 for 19 from the field. Edwards averaged 18.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game as a sophomore. He was invited to the First Team All-Big Ten and led Purdue to a school-record 30-win record. Edwards also received national recognition for winning the Jerry West Award as the best shooting guard in the country. He announced for the 2018 NBA draft without using an agent at the end of the season. He later decided to return to Purdue after being part of the NBA Draft Combine earlier this year.

Edwards's conversion dropped from 46% (40.6%) to 39.4% as a junior, and 35.5% from 3. However, he shot about 19 shots per game as opposed to about 13.5 during his sophomore season. This was also due to a shooting halte in February 2019, where he fired about 30% from the ground.

Edwards was named the Yearbook Pre-Season College Basketball National Player of the Year on September 25, 2018. Edwards dropped another career-high 40 points on 15 of 26 shots in a 72-68 loss to Texas. In a 99-90 overtime victory over Penn State, Edwards made a then-school record eight three-point shots to win by 38 points. Edwards was also selected by the United States Basketball Writer's Association to be on the All-American Second Team (USBWA).

Edwards scored a career-high 42 points on just 21 shots in a landslide victory over the defending champions and #6 seed Villanova on March 23, following a 87–61 victory over the defending champions and #6 seed Villanova. In a Sweet Sixteen victory over Tennessee, Edwards scored 29 points. Edwards dazzled in the national spotlight against Virginia in the Elite Eight. He made ten of his 19 three-point attempts, just one shy of the NCAA tournament record, and set a school record. Edwards set new records against Villanova in the 87-61 round of 32, defeating them by eight points, but he tied those nine against Penn State in the 8th round. He finished scoring 42 points in his second appearance in the last three games, but he only scored two in the extra period as Virginia defeated in overtime. He was named the Most Outstanding Player in the South region at the end of Purdue's career.

Edwards set a new record in the 2019 NCAA tournament. With 28 points, he tied for the single-tournament 3-point record. However, the previous record holder had played in all six games to Edwards' four. He also finished third in the NCAA championship's most 25-point games in a row, tying current NBA player Stephen Curry with 5.

Edwards, who suffered in the 2019 NCAA men's basketball tournament, has stated his intention to forego his last season of collegiate eligibility and declare for the 2019 NBA draft, where he was expected to be a first-round pick.

Professional career

Edwards was selected with the 33rd overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft by the Boston Celtics on June 20, 2019, after the Philadelphia 76ers exchanged his draft rights. Edwards lasted for the Celtics during the 2019 NBA Summer League season and averaged 19.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 23.4 minutes in five games. Despite a 25 point, 8 rebound effort by Edwards, the Celtics were disqualified in the first round by the eventual champions, the Memphis Grizzlies, after clinching the number one seed in the tournament. The Celtics announced on July 14, 2019, that they had signed Edward Edwards. Edwards made his NBA debut on October 23, 2019, jumping off the bench in a 93–107 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers with three points and a rebound. Edwards had a career high 18 points in a 140-133 victory over the Washington Wizards on November 13. Edwards finished with eighteen points, four rebounds, three assists, and a steal in 20 minutes.

Edwards was re-assigned to the Maine Red Claws, the Celtics G-League affiliate, on February 6, 2020.

In the 2021 NBA Summer League, he competed for the Celtics. Edwards was drafted to the Memphis Grizzlies in 2021, but he was released eight days later.

Edwards was signed by the Salt Lake City Stars on November 6, 2021. He led the G-League in scoring in 31 games, scoring 29 points, 2.7 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.5 steals in 35.9 minutes per game.

Edwards signed a two-year deal with the Detroit Pistons on April 3, 2022. Edwards had 13 points, a career-high 9 assists, and three rebounds in 31 minutes of play in his first game with the Pistons. The Pistons turned down Edward Edwards' service, making him a free agent on June 30.

Edwards signed his first Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahçe on July 31, 2022.

National team career

Edwards was selected to the roster of the US national team for the 2017 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup in Egypt, where they won a bronze medal.

Edwards was also selected to the roster of the US national team for the 2017 Taipei Universiade, where they earned a silver medal.
