Gonzalo Montiel Career

Club career

Montiel's career began at the River Plate academy. He made his debut for the club's first team on April 30, 2016, at the age of 19. He started to play four matches for the first team in the 2016-2017 season. He will play a key role in the Copa Argentina this season. After playing all of the games from the last 16 to the final, in which his team defeated CA Tucumán, he will lift the trophy. The defender also excelled in the Copa Libertadores, scoring a goal and assisting three players, and playing every minute from the quarter-finals to the semi-finals, where River Plate was beaten by Lans.

Montiel made a big leap forward in his career in the 2017–18 seasons. He appeared in 35 games, fifteen of whom were in the league. Despite the fourteen appearances he made at the Santiago Bernabeu against Boca Juniors, what stood out was the fourteen appearances heglazed over the Copa Libertadores. The team was close to repeating last year's triumph against Gimnasia, with five matches in the Copa Argentina. In the Argentine Super Cup, the team defeated Boca Juniors for their second double of the season.

The following season brought the right-back's role at River Plate even more solidified. Montiel was uninhibited in twelve games in the league. Montiel reached the Copa Libertadores final after 12 matches for the second season in a row; however, Flamengo will defeat River Plate. He won the Copa Argentina once more when River defeated Central Córdoba - he played every minute in the cup run. River competed in the FIFA Club World Cup, finishing third after winning the Copa Libertadores last season. He was unable to participate in the Super Cup due to an injury. River defeated Club Athletico Paranaense by 3–0, recovering from the blow.

Montiel's La Liga vitamine Sevilla has been signed on a three-year contract on August 13, 2021.

International career

Montiel was included in Argentina's squad for friendlies against Venezuela and Morocco by boss Lionel Scaloni in March 2019. Montiel made his debut against Venezuela on March 22nd.

Montiel was one of Argentina's 28-man squad for the 2021 Copa América tournament, announced on June 11, 2021. He appeared in four of the seven matches played by the team, including the final, in which he had to recover with a bleeding ankle as a result of Fred's tackle in the first half of the tournament.

ISABEL BALDWIN AT HARD ROCK STADIUM, MIAMI: The Floridian air was thick with anticipation - long with the humidity - Saturday as Miami, the home of Lionel Messi, set the perfect stage for Argentina's group-stage Copa America finale against Peru. The only problem? The star of the show didn't show. Messi - the talismanic behind Argentina's successes - was forced to watch his undefeated nation's victory over Peru from the bench. His status had remained murky throughout the week, leaving fans in a state of nervous suspense, before ultimately the groin injury his sustained against Chile earlier in the week ruled him out. Yet, even without their leading man, Argentina's show went on as Lautaro Martinez fired the Albiceleste to a win and an undefeated spot atop Group A.
