She was one of the first women to break the top of the country music charts with her No. 66. "I Let the Stars Get In My Eyes" is a 1953 hit.

Early life and career
Hill was born in 1933 in Karnes City, Texas, a small town southeast of San Antonio. She was the sister of singer Tommy Hill. On the Louisiana Hayride, she appeared. She had a Decca Records deal. In 1952, she first recorded "Why Talk To My Heart," her first single. The same year, Hill released the album "I Let the Stars Get In My Eyes." In 1954, she performed double duets with singer Justin Tubb, son of Ernest Tubb. She released two albums for Decca Records in the early 1960s. Carl Smith married country singer Carl Smith in 1957 and had two sons (Carl, Jr. and Larry Dean) as well as one daughter (Lori Lynn) with him. They were married for 47 years before her deaths. She made a brief comeback in the late 1960s on Epic Records under the name Goldie Hill Smith. Hill died of lung disease complications on February 24, 2005. She was 72 years old. Her husband survived her by five years.
