Personal life

McCullouch was on the New York City subway in January 2009 when a man attempted to rob his laptop; McCullouch, a licensed boxer, fought him off; even as the robber threatened to stab him with a kitchen knife. By New York City police officers, the robber was apprehended. In 2001, he was robbed at a gunpoint in Atlanta.

McCullouch is gay and has produced and appeared in many gay-themed films. Derrick Gordon, a professional basketball player, was dated by him before. He was named one of the year's most influential individuals by Out in their OUT 100, alongside Ricky Martin, Alan Cumming, Rachel Maddow, and others, and he received the Independent Series Best Supporting Actor Award for his role in Hustling.
