Early life

Bello is the nephew of Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante. He had a younger brother Anthony, who was murdered in the Bronx, New York City, in 1996. His murder was never solved. Bello has a tattoo on his right upper arm with a design of Anthony's face, with the words 'In Memory of Anthony' below it.

Frank Bello Career

Career

Bello began as a roadie and guitar technician for Anthrax but was later replaced by Dan Lilker shortly after the band's 1984 debut album Fistful of Metal, but the band hasn't resigned in 2004 to join Helmet, a New York City-based metal band. Bello rejoined Anthrax the following year, and (as of 2014) has remained in the band since being in Helmet.

Bello has often referred to Steve Harris, Gene Simmons, Geezer Butler, Geddy Lee, Chris Squire, and Jaco Pastorius as influences and inspirations to his bass playing. He mostly plays bass fingerstyle, but he does occasionally use a pick on specific songs. In the videos for "Room for One More" and "Fueled," for example, he can be seen using one. During his time with Helmet, he used a pick the majority of the time.

Bello's autobiography, Fathers, Brothers, and Sons: Surviving Anthrax, Abandonment, and Anthrax was announced in May 2021. Joel McIver, a British author, is co-writer on the book, and it also features a foreword by Gene Simmons of Kiss.

In Greetings from Tim Buckley, a film about Tim and Jeff Buckley that premiered at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival, Bello played Richard Hell. In addition, he appeared in Joe's Apartment as a stick-up guy and appeared in the Law & Order episode "The Brotherhood" (also known as "Rocker). In addition, he appeared in an episode of Married... with Children and Newsradio.
