Néstor Fernando Muslera Micol (Spanish: [feɾˈnando muzˈleɾa]; born 16 June 1986) is a Uruguayan professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Turkish club Galatasaray, whom he captains, and the Uruguay national team.
He is considered one of the finest goalkeepers of his generation and was ranked as high as sixth-best in the world by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics in 2011.
Muslera began his career at Montevideo Wanderers and Nacional, moving to Lazio in 2007 where he won the 2009 Coppa Italia Final. In 2011, he was signed by Galatasaray for a fee of around €12 million, where he has since won honours which include five Süper Lig titles, four Turkish Cups and four Turkish Super Cups.

Club career
Muslera was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and began his football career with Montevideo Wanderers, starting with his family. Nacional decided to loan Wanderers after his good results, but Nacional decided not to take him on loan in 2007. He began to attract attention from Europe after a series of strong shows, until he was signed by Lazio in 2007.
Lazio bought Muslera in August 2007 for a fee of about €3 million. He made his Lazio debut in a 3–1 home victory over Cagliari on September 16, 2007, and his fourth appearance in Lazio's 5–1 home loss to Milan on October 7th, where he was at fault on four of the five goals Lazio conceded. He was fired in favour of 44-year-old Marco Ballotta after that performance. He remained as the second-choice for the remainder of the season, making only four more Serie A appearances and none in the UEFA Champions League. However, he did appear in all of Lazio's remaining Coppa Italia games, putting in good shows.
Muslera's second-choice goalkeeper behind new signing Juan Pablo Carrizo, but the team regained control in January 2009 after a string of poor results by Carrizo, as well as challenges with team leadership. Muslera's first appearance in Serie A had him make several saves in a 3–1 loss to Sampdoria, including saving an Antonio Cassano penalty. Muslera regained a huge amount of confidence after his stellar success against Napoli and Genoa, as well as against Roma in his first ever Derby della Capitale.
Muslera, nicknamed "Castorino" or "little beaver" by Lazio fans, was also a key figure in the club's triumphant 2008-09 Coppa Italia campaign, making decisive saves against Milan and Juventus as Lazio advanced to the final for the first time in five seasons. Muslera saved two points in the final on May 13 as Lazio defeated Lazio 6–5 in the shootout after the match ended 1–1 in extra time.

Galatasaray, a Turkish Süper Lig club, reported the signing of Muslera from Lazio on a five-year deal while he was on duty in the 2011 Copa América with Uruguay. Lorik Cana's transfer was directed in the opposite direction to Lazio, while Galatasaray's former team, Montevideo Wanderers, was paid €6.75 million, which owned half of his playing rights. International career
Muslera had been called up for the Uruguay national team on several occasions, but did not win his first cap until October 10, 2009, when he took over Ecuador's 2–1 away victory. The match was Uruguay's penultimate qualifier for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
Muslera made his World Cup debut against France on June 11, 2010 in Uruguay's first match of the tournament. During all three Uruguay's group matches (0-0 against France, 3–0 against South Africa, and 1–0 against Mexico), he kept a clean sheet (4-0 against Mexico). Uruguay defeated South Korea in the round of 16, and Muslera had set a record for the longest goalkeeper in the World Cup before Uruguay conceded. In the quarter-final match against Ghana, where he saved two penalties at the penalty shootout, he was decisive. He was a key member of Uruguay's World Cup squad, where the team then finished fourth in the tournament.
Coach scar Tabárez called Muslera to represent Uruguay as the first-choice goalkeeper at the 2011 Copa América tournament in Argentina. He was named man of the match in the quarter-finals against Argentina, where Uruguay lost on penalties after Muslera saved a penalty from Carlos Tevez to win the match. Uruguay defeated Paraguay 3–0 in the final to win the Copa América title. Muslera started every game and played in every minute of Uruguay's glorious cup campaign.
