Fernando Daniel (born 11 May 1996) is a Portuguese singer-songwriter.
He won the fourth edition of The Voice Portugal in 2016.
Career
He first appeared on television in 2014 on the Portuguese TV show Factor X, which is the Portuguese version of the internationally recognised music show The X Factor. He appeared on the second edition alone and was eventually barred from the piano section. However, the judges adored his voice and decided to team him with Luana Ribeiro, another contestant who was disqualified at the piano stage. They joined BABEL, which ultimately placed 4th overall at the show, together.
He returned to try his luck again in 2016 on the 4th season of The Voice Portugal. His audition was a huge success both nationally and in the United States, defeating the record for the most watched audition of The Voice. He went on to win the show in December after receiving the majority of the public vote.
In 2017, Henrique Feist, a Portuguese composer, was invited to perform his song "Poema Dois" in Festival da Canço and try to represent Portugal in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. On the Final, he finished in 5th place. Salvador Sobral, who performed "Amar Pelos Dois," was eventually to win the Grand Finale and ended up winning the competition.
Fernando Daniel's first original single, "Espera," was released in July 2017 as part of the Portuguese telenovela "A Herdeira." "Espera" was included in his first studio album, Salto, which was released in March 2018.
Fernando received the award at the 2019 MTV Europe Music Awards for his best Portuguese Act at the live event in Seville in 2019.
He has been one of the four coaches of The Voice Portugal's kids since 2021. His first season in this format marked his second as the first The Voice Portugal champion to become a mentor. Simo Oliveira, his showman, won the competition and represented Portugal in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Paris. Fernando was later discovered by RTP1 as the song's composer. Fernando will return as a coach in 2022 as a mentor later this year. Maria Gil, his showman, won the series in his second season, making him the winning coach for two seasons in a row.
