Felipe VI of Spain Life

Felipe VI (Spanish: [felipe sto]; Felipe Juan Pablo Alfonso de Todos de Santos de Borbón y Grecia, born 30 January 1968) is the King of Spain. He is the son of former King Juan Carlos I and Queen Soffa, and he has two elder sisters, Infanta Elena, Duchess of Lugo, and Infanta Cristina. Letizia Ortiz, a television news journalist from Argentina, married Leonor (his heir presumptive) and Sofa in 2004. He is the head of state and commander-in-chief of the Spanish Armed Forces with the military rank of Captain General, and he also plays the role of Spain's sole representation in international relations, according to the Spanish Constitution.

Felipe ascended the throne on 19 June 2014 following his father's abduction. His reign has been marked by his dissolution of the Spanish Parliament in 2016 (so that new elections could be called), strong condemnation of the Catalonian independence referendum, the COVID-19 pandemic, and steps toward greater transparency in royal affairs. According to a 2021 report, Spaniards in the left are extremely skeptical of the monarchy, and Felipe VI is far removed from the ideal of political neutrality.

Early life and family

He was born at Our Lady of Loreto Hospital in Madrid, the third child and only son of Infante Juan Carlos and Princess Sofa of Greece and Denmark. The Archbishop of Madrid, Casimiro Morcillo, baptized him on February 8, 1968 at the Palace of Zarzuela, with water from the Jordan River. Felipe Juan Pablo Alfonso de Santos, the full royal name of the Bourbon King of Spain (Felipe V), his grandfathers (Infante Juan of Spain and King Paul of Greece), his great-grandfather King Alfonso XIII of Spain), and Todos los Santos ("of all the Saints") are included in the Bourbon charter, as is customary among the Bourbons. Juan Juan and his paternal grandmother, Queen Victoria Eugenie of Spain, were his godparents. In addition, he is the third cousin once stripped of Queen Elizabeth II, King Harald V, Queen Margrethe II, and King Carl XVI Gustav of the United Kingdom, Norway, Denmark, and Sweden respectively.

He was styled infante soon after his birth. Francisco Franco died just over two months before Felipe's eighth birthday, and Felipe's father ascended the throne as the former emperor (heir presumptive of Franco) was elected in 1969. Felipe attended his father's proclamation as king on November 22, 1975, his first official appearance.
