Francisco Javier Gutiérrez Dáz, or simply F. Javier Gutiérrez, is a Spanish film director, producer, and writer.
He is well-known for his films including Brazil and Norman's Room, as well as his debut in Before the Fall.
Early life
Gutiérrez was born in Córdoba, Spain. He studied acting and produced his first short films while attending Law School. He formed his own film production company in 2001. He went straight to his first international festivals with Brasil (Best Short Film at the Sitges International Film Festival and Nominated for the European Golden Mellies).
Career
Gutiérrez founded his own production company in 2001, with the intention of making films with a global audience. He was invited by TVE's program "Versión Espaola" to produce a piece for the series Diminutos del Calvario II in 2002. Gutiérrez's La habitacion de Norman (Norman's Room), a claustrophobic tribute to Psychos, was released in film industry magazines in the United States. He received the Universal Studios award in the same year and visited Los Angeles for the first time. Gutiérrez received a grant from Antonio Banderas and Antonio Pérez in 2007 to direct his first feature film, "Special Panorama" at the Berlin Film Festival.
Gutiérrez has been working on the resurrectance of the 90's cult film The Crow, which was based on James O'Barr's comic book and produced by Relativity Media and Edward R. Pressman. Gutiérrez, however, decided not to direct the next installment of The Ring franchise, produced by Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald, making him unsuitable to direct The Crow. Gutierrez was expected to continue as executive producer on board The Crow, according to Deadline Hollywood.
