Eugenio Mena Career

Club career

Mena completed his education at the University of Santiago Wanderers' academy and made his senior debut in 2008 Chilean Primera División B. On October 11, 2009, he scored his first commercial goal against San Marcos de Arica.

Mena was signed to Club Universidad de Chile for a $500,000 fee for the first part of his rights in July 2010. Mena struggled to break into a unified squad in his first season, appearing only occasionally. However, Mena was molded into a key player of the La U squad after the arrival of Jorge Sampaoli in 2011. He was a member of the squad that defeated Copa Sudamericana and Chilean Primera División at the end of the season.

Mena signed a one-year loan contract with Brazilian Série A team Santos FC, with a buyout clause included on July 3, 2013. He quickly established himself as a starter, and Peixe acquired the player's remaining rights on June 5th.

After winning a court suit due to unpaid wages, Mena rescinded his Santos contract on January 14, 2015. He reached an agreement with Cruzeiro's fellow league team ten days later.

He joined Racing Club de Avellaneda on July 9, 2018.

International career

On 2009 Toulon Tournament, which finished first, and the 2010 Toulon Tournament, which placed fourth, Mena represented Chile's national football team U-23.

In a 1–2 loss to Ukraine on September 7, 2010, he made his debut with the full squad. In a 3–1 victory over Peru on March 21, 2012, he scored his first goal for La Roja.

Mena was also one of the 23-men selected by FIFA World Cup boss Jorge Sampaoli for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. During the tournament, he appeared in four games, all as a starter.
