Ivan Zamorano Life

Iván Zamora (American Spanish: [i.an samo]; born 18 January 1967) is a Chilean former professional footballer who played as a striker. He is known as one of Chile's most popular footballers, as well as Marcelo Salas, Leonel Sánchez, and Elias Figueroa.

He was a member of the Chilean national team and competed in the 1998 World Cup, four Copa América tournaments, and the Olympics in 2000, where he won a bronze medal and was the top scorer of the tournament. He played for many clubs, including Spanish clubs Sevilla and Real Madrid C.F. Inter Milan, Italy, as well as Liga MX club Club Club America, are among the players. He won the 1994-95 La Liga title and was the season's top scorer for Real Madrid. He also won the UEFA Cup with Inter Milan in 1998, as well as the Liga MX crown with Club America in his first season with the club. He was known for his strength and agility in the air, with many of his goals coming from headers.

Zamorano was selected among the top living football players in the world compiled by Pelé in 2004.

Bam Bam and Iván el Terrible were two of Zamorano's nicknames, so they were named Bam Bam and Iván el Terrible.

Personal life

Zamorano has a long-term friendship with his former footballer, Fabián Estay, who moved from 2001 to 2007 due to the fact that Estay said that Zamorano did not help him when he was disengaged from the América first team by the club's chiefs. In addition, Zamorano is the godfather of Renata Ivana, the Estay's daughter.

He married Mara Alberó, an Argentine model, in 2005.

Since 2016, he has lived in Miami, United States, and has worked as a football commentator for television shows such as Univision and TUDN.

Ivan Zamorano Career

Club career

Born in Santiago, Zamorano began his career with Cobresal in Chile in December 1985. Trasandino, a Chilean Primera Division B club, loaned him out during the 1985–86 season. He returned to the club shortly after winning the 1987 Copa Chile with Cobresal. He moved from Europe to Swiss club FC St. Gallen in 1988, winning 37 goals in 61 games over three seasons. Zamorano debuted in the Spanish Primera División in 1990, with Sevilla, where he would play 63 games and scored 23 goals in all competitions before being sold to Real Madrid for $6 million.

Zamorano won one league, one Copa del Rey, and one Spanish Supercup title between 1992 and 1996 with Real Madrid. Zamorano helped Real Madrid win the Spanish League in 1995, scoring 28 goals, including a hat-trick against FC Barcelona, and was named the season's top scorer. He formed a fruitful attacking alliance with playmaker Michael Laudrup last year. He won the EFE Trophy in 1992–93 and 1994–95 seasons, which is given to the best Ibero-American player in La Liga every year by Spanish news organization EFE. Zamorano scored 102 goals on Real Madrid, appearing 173 times.

Zamorano spent four seasons with Inter Milan, including Youri Djorkaeff, Diego Simeone, Javier Zanetti, and Ronaldo, among others, from 1996 to 2000, where he was teammates with Youri Djorkaeff, Diego Simeone, Javier Zanetti, and Ronaldo. He was formerly the club's top striker, wearing the club's coveted number nine shirt. Ronaldo was forced to give up number ten and wear number nine upon Baggio's arrival at the club, but Zamorano was compelled to wear another and instead wear a shirt identifying him as the number '1+8', effectively making him a number 9 striker. Inter won the UEFA Cup in May 1998 after beating Lazio 3–0, with Zamorano scoring the first goal. In the second leg of last year's final, he had also scored, with the game going to penalties. However, Zamorano missed his penalty when Inter lost the shootout to Schalke 04 4–1.

Zamorano would move to Mexico in 2001 to play for América for two seasons, winning the Torneo de Verano in the first season. He started playing for Colo-Colo in 2003, fulfilling a childhood dream. After a successful career spanning more than 16 years, he announced his resignation in July of this year.

International career

Zamorano made his international debut on June 19, 1987, scoring a goal against Peru in a 3–1 friendly victory over Peru. In a 1998 World Cup qualifier against Venezuela, which resulted in a 6–0 victory, he scored five goals on 29 April 1997. He appeared in all four of Chile's games at the 1998 World Cup; despite losing to score and setting up Marcelo Salas' goal in a 1–1 draw against Austria, Marcelo Salas was a central figure in the Chilean team. He won the bronze medal in the 2000 Olympic Games, scoring a brace against the United States, and he was the top scorer with six goals. At the age of 34, his last international match was a farewell friendly between Chile and France on September 1, 2001, which Chile won 2–1. Zamorano was capped 69 times, scoring 34 goals.
