Esbjorn Svensson Life

Bror Fredrik "Esbjörn" Svensson (16 April 1964 – June 2008) was a Swedish jazz pianist and producer of the Esbjörn Svensson Trio, also known as e.s.t. Svensson became one of Europe's most popular jazz musicians at the turn of the 21st century before death, at the age of 44, in a scuba diving tragedy.

Early life and work

Svensson was introduced to classical music and jazz early in life by his mother, a classical pianist, and his father, a jazz enthusiast, who expressed first love for classical music. He began a few garage bands with classmates in his teenage years before returning to classical music and finally finding his way toward jazz. Svensson took piano lessons at a music academy at the age of 16. He then studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm for four years.

Svensson formed his own jazz band with his childhood friend Magnus ström on percussion in 1990. Both musicians appeared on stage for the first time as sidemen in Sweden and Denmark's 1980s jazz. Bassist Dan Berglund joined the band in 1993 and the Esbjörn Svensson Trio was born. When Everyone Has Gone (1993), the trio's debut album, and in the years that followed, the group established itself in the Nordic jazz scene. In 1995 and 1996, Svensson was nominated for Swedish Jazz Musician of the Year.
