Fiona Joy Hawkins, better known as Fiona Joy, is an Australian singer and pianist.

Early life

Fiona Joy was born in Cessnock, New South Wales, Australia, and she was raised in both Newcastle and Tamworth. She began to play the piano at an early age, composing short stories as an adolescent. Ursula Bakker, a tutor at the Tamworth Conservatorium of Music, showed early signs of musical ability. Es Clarke, Ursula Bakker, and Maus Newell were among her teachers.

Musical career

Portrait of a Waterfall, her first album, debuted at No. 1. In 2005, the New Age Reporter (NAR) World Charts No. 1 on the New Age (NAR) World Charts. Angel Above My Piano, her classical debut, received the NAR Lifestyle Music Award for Best Piano Album of the Year in 2006.

She has been a finalist in both the Jazz and Classic categories as well as the Los Angeles Music Awards in the New Age/Ambient Instrumental category.

Fiona Joy, the 2008 MusicOz champion for Best Jazz or Classical Artist, was the 2008 MusicOz champion. Zone Music Reporter named her album Blue Dream as her Best Contemporary Instrumental Album and Best Instrumental Album in 2009. The album was also a finalist for the ARIA Music Award.

6000 Years in a Moment (2013), her fourth album, based on Celtic music from her family roots, as well as vocal and instrumental performances aimed at Mongolia, Hungary, China, Tibet, Ireland, the Middle East, and Native America. She performed a Stuart & Sons piano and appeared in Newcastle, Australia, at Ackerman's Imaginary Road Studios, Los Angeles, New York, Bremen and Portland, Maine, and Halifax, Nova Scotia. Eugene Friesen, bassist Tony Levin, drummer Jeff Haynes, Charlie Bisharat, violinist and singer Rebecca Daniel, as well as guitarist Will Ackerman and Todd Boston were among the featured performers. At the 2013 ZMR Music Awards, the album was named Best Instrumental Album – Piano.

Fiona Joy was a finalist in the Best Live Performance, Best New Age Album, and Best New Age Song categories at the Independent Music Awards in 2013. At the Independent Music Awards the same year, she was also finalists in the Best Live Performance, Best New Age Album, and Best New Age Song categories.

Fiona Joy and Will Ackerman produced the album By a Wire by Jennifer Defrayne, with Fiona Joy as a producer on piano and lyrics. "Grace" was released on the compilation album Winds of Samsara in 2014, which reached No. 1 in the U.S. 1 on the Billboard New Age albums chart. She was nominated for Best New Age Album at the Grammy Awards for Best New Age Album.

After her appearance in Shenyang, Zhou Tiebing of the Xiangyang Government Network dubbed Hawkins the "piano princess" in 2015.

The Independent Music Award for Best New Age Song for "Song Calling Earth" and Best New Age Album were given to her 2016 album Signature Synchronicity. The ZMR Award for Best Piano Album was also given to it.

On May 2017, Fiona Joy's second solo piano album Into The Mist was released on Blue Coast Records.

Fiona Joy was formed in October 2017 by Lawrence Blatt, Jeff Oster, and Will Ackerman, joining the group "FLOW" (from the first letters of Fiona Joy" (from Blatt's first name and Oster's last name). On October 6, 2017, FLOW debuted at Weill Hall in Carnegie Hall.

Fiona Joy's Story of Ghosts was her third audiophile release with Blue Coast Records in early 2018. It was nominated for the Best Piano Album - Solo by Zone Music Reporter.

Fiona Joy collaborated with Rebecca Daniel in a new album called The Lightness of Shadow starring the Kanimbla Quartet in 2019. On the album Promise, she appeared with FLOW.

She has also been interviewed to discuss trends in the use of high-end pianos and the potential contributions that new technologies could make to a musician's works.
