'Tourists won't come to Wales if they fear a £100 fine': Furious Welsh locals slam Mark Drakeford's blanket 20mph speed limit and warn drivers could get distracted checking speedometers - while businessmen fear ULEZ-style plan will hit to their trade

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 15, 2023
The new go-slow guidelines go into operation on Sunday, but commuters are already clogging up urban highways at 'tootling along' at under 20 mph. Some drivers believe it's a money-making measure carried out by the Welsh Government, whose first minister is under fire for introducing the new legislation. A staggering £32.5 million is being invested on the latest signs, including funds that taxpayers claim should have gone to the NHS. However, the Welsh Government maintains that the 20mph speed limit will result in 40% less accidents per year each year and that up to ten lives will be saved. Every household in Wales is sent a glossy bi-lingual leaflet: 'Most journeys will take about one minute longer,' a glossy bi-lingual leaflet says.' Jamie O'Leary (pictured left), a 42-year-old catering manager, said: "I don't believe their estimates" because the majority of journeys will take longer. Because they don't want to get caught, some drivers will go below the speed limit,' you have to factor in.' Eric Walters, a retired bricklayer, is seen on the right. Mark Drakeford, Inset Left: Inset left. Inset right: Customers in Llandovery, where the new legislation was blasted as 'ridiculous'.
