Carter was born in L.A., on March 4, 1957. Salt Lake City, Utah, is a hospital. He attended Utah State University. His interests include gardening, tennis, skiing, and travelling. In Auburn, California, he and his wife, Noelle L. Carter, live. Molly and Emma, their two children.

Career

Carter worked as a graphic designer and advertisement illustrator throughout the 1970s. He worked for a publishing house, as an artist, a paper engineer, and a book designer before 1987. After this, he began working as an author, illustrator, and paper engineer, mainly in children's books. How Many Bugs in a Box was his first book. Noelle Carter, Carter's wife, works with him all the time. Carter has written more than 90 books, including a guide to making pop-ups titled The Elements of Pop Up. For the British band Mylo Xyloto's 2011 album Mylo Xyloto, he created a hardback book of graffiti art.
