Emily King (born July 10, 1985) is an American singer and songwriter.
She started her career in 2004 and her debut album East Side Story was released three years later in August 2007.
In December 2007, King was listed as a Grammy nominee for Best Contemporary R&B Album.
Career
King signed her first J Records contract in 2004 and appeared on Nas' 2004 album Street's Disciple as simply "Emily." In August 2007, she first album, East Side Story, was released. It received a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Album of the Year. After leaving the label in 2008, King continued her work as a freelancer with producer Jeremy Most. In her home, she self-recorded her follow-up EP Seven. Throughout this period, King toured nationally and internationally with many artists, including Nas, John Legend, Floetry, Chaka Khan, Erykah Badu, and Maroon 5.
In 2012, King received the Holly Award (a tribute to Buddy Holly's legacy) from The Songwriters Hall of Fame for his work reflects Holly's music's characteristics: true, wonderful, and original. In the fall, King was invited by Emeli Sandé to open her UK tour, which included sell out shows in five cities, including at The Royal Albert Hall in London. On his album "Heaven on the Ground" and the acoustic version of "Come to My Door," King collaborated with José James on his album No Beginning No End in 2013. King contributed to the writing of "Being Human," the ending theme song for Cartoon Network's animated film Steven Universe Future, which she performed. In an episode of the series, her song "Can't Hold Me" was also used.
On January 17, 2020, King's fourth studio album, Sides, was released. The album features acoustic interpretations of her previous recordings, as well as a Sara Bareilles appearance on "Teach You."
