Early life
DiDonato, an Italian, Irish, and Native American immigrant, was born in Goshen, New York, and is of Italian, Irish, and Native American descent. Her great-grandparents immigrated from Italy to the United States. Emily was scouted at the Danbury Mall by Tina Kiniry of the John Casablancas Modeling & Acting Agency of Connecticut when she was ten years old. In 2008, Tina introduced Emily to Request Model Management, and she stayed in jobs as the face of Guess. clothing for spring 2009 and as a model in Ralph Lauren's "Rugby" spring 2009 advertisement campaign.

Career
She was signed as the face of Maybelline New York in May 2009, having just graduated from high school with just a few months of modeling experience, and her debut with the company's "Color Sensational Lip Color" collection, along with Christy Turlington, Jessica White, and Julia Stegner. DiDonato started modeling for Victoria's Secret in August 2009 and was featured on her first magazine cover in The Block's October 2009 issue.
