Emily Ratajkowski Career

Career

Ratajkowski met and signed with a talent agent who called Ford Models with encouragement from an acting coach. She joined Ford at age 14 and went on to do teen print catalog modeling for Kohl's and Nordstrom on the same day. Ratajkowski began auditioning for Disney and iCarly roles at 15, but she was often cast as a judge or cheerleader, and bigger roles didn't appear. When modeling and acting in Los Angeles, she attended San Dieguito Academy, a high school in Encinitas. In two episodes of Nickelodeon's iCarly's third season (2009–2010), she appeared in two nonscript movie roles as Gibby's girlfriend, Tasha. Her boss has discouraged her from pursuing many acting roles until she could be more selective.

Ratajkowski attended UCLA for one year but dropped out before deciding to model full-time. She later reported that the fine art education at the UCLA School of Applied Arts and Architecture was arbitrary and in contradiction with her artistic ideals, and that she did not enjoy going to fraternities. Ratajkowski started shooting more fashion editorials and posed for several early issues of the experimental erotica magazine treats, including the cover of the third issue in March 2012. She cites that magazine for introducing her to the two unsupervised, high-profile, music video roles. Ratajkowski directed commercials for Nikon and Carl's Jr., as well as several versions of a 2012 Carl's Jr. commercial starring Sara Jean Underwood. In addition, she did nude and clothed art modeling for magazines, including a May 2012 shoot with Jonathan Leder, Frederick's of Hollywood, and a 2011 Valentine's video in which Ratajkowski appeared for the company are among the most popular videos on the company's YouTube channel; a 2012 holiday shoot and a 2011 Valentine's video in which Ratajkowski appeared for the company are among the company's most popular YouTube videos. Ratajkowski was photographed by photographer Tony Kelly for the March 2013 GQ Turkey cover.

Ratajkowski appeared in Robin Thicke, T.I., and Pharrell Williams' 2013 film "Blurred Lines." Ratajkowski had appeared in two other music videos, including Taio Cruz's "Fast Car" and Maroon 5's "Love Somebody," which were released two months after "Blurred Lines." Both "Love Somebody" and "Blurred Lines" were shot on January 16, 2013; "Love Somebody" was shot on January 16, and "Blurred Lines" were released in 2013. On May 21, 2013, the film "Love Somebody" was released. It's directed by Rich Lee and shows bare-chested Adam Levine smeg paint on Ratajkowski's hands. They meet each other as they touch.

Thicke had seen Ratajkowski's treats!

Ms. Ratajkowski's complete black-and-white photograph was branded as "an artfully produced black-and-white photograph of her knees tucked to her chest" by the New York Times, causing producer Diane Martel to film her in the "Blurred Lines" music video. In the picture, Martel thought "she looked smart and stunning." Ratajkowski initially declined the role due to being identified as a music video model, but Martel persuaded her otherwise. The video was released on March 20, 2013. Thicke gave us an explicit version of a topless Ratajkowski on March 28, a topless Ratajkowski.

"Blurred Lines" was controversial, with some believing that its music was sexist for the perceived degradation of women and others that implied rape. Some disapproved, arguing that the songs promoted feminine control and sexual liberation. "It's very funny and subtly ridiculing," Martel defended Ratajkowski's performance. Ratajkowski did not think of the film as sexist and said that the designers, "took something that on paper sounded really sexist and misogynistic, making it more interesting." "The song gave me the opportunity to talk about feminism today and about women in general in pop culture," she said. Ratajkowski said she did not objectified and enjoyed performing in a sexual manner: According to her, America hasn't advanced as much as it should have, and society represses sexuality, which is detrimental to both sexes.

Ratajkowski's review of her role in "Blurred Lines" as an unequivocal and explicitly feminist time in her 2021 memoir, My Body, was reconsidered. Thicke and Ratajkowski engaged in a tense exchange in which Thicke, feeling trembling and indignation at Ratajkowski's request, kissed Ratajkowski's breast without her permission, causing Emily to cower and the shooting to a halt. Ratajkowski did not retaliate and because Thicke was not held accountable in any way, Ratajkowski reenacts the case in order to demonstrate the fact that the shoot was a legitimate claim to female power but perhaps only as a result of the male's behest: ""We women were indebted to the men whose desire granted them their positions in the first place, but not necessarily in charge... [T]he woman who were not in "I was nothing more than the hired mannequin."

Ratajkowski's Associated video performance of "Blurred Lines" was highly relevant outside of the sociopolitical debate. The song debuted on music charts in a variety of countries, including Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, making it the top-one hit of 2013. Despite being ranked second on the year-end US Billboard Hot 100 chart, the artist's twelve weeks at number one made it the longest-running number-one song of the decade, though "Uptown Funk" spent fourteen weeks at number one in 2015. Due to a copyright infringement lawsuit and appeal, the song remained in the news.
