Broderick Hunter Jr. was born in Fontana, California, to Broderick Hunter Sr. and Chika Hunter. Jole, his older sister, has died. He attended Etiwanda High School, where he played basketball, which eventually led to a scholarship for University of Central Florida.

Hunter began modeling at the age of 20, after being asked to be a model for a photoshoot. Since being published in various magazines, including Cosmopolitan, Maxim, Essence, Vogue Paris, and Italian GQ, he has been featured on the fronts of XIOX, Fantastics, and OnFitness magazines. Business Insider, People, Harper's Bazaar, and others also included him on their list of "sexiest guys on Instagram." Hunter has also worked with Ralph Lauren Corporation and has won a campaign with Icelandic Glacial in 2017.

Hunter appeared in The Wanted's music video in 2011.
