She is currently residing and working in New York and has been cooking since 1990.

Elizabeth Falker was born in San Francisco, California, on February 12, 1966, and she was raised in Southern California. Her father was an art professor. Falkner earned a BFA degree from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1989.

Personal life

Falkner identifies herself as a lesbian. She is active in the LGBTQ community and has done extensive work with Act Up and the Human Rights Campaign, receiving the Charles M. Holmes Award from the former in 2005.

Career

She began as a dishwasher at French bistro Cafe Claude in San Francisco. With Chef Julian Serrano of Masa, she ventured into French fine dining. Falkner became the pastry chef at Elka's Miyako Hotel in 1993, and he served as the pastry chef under new Chef Traci Des Jardins at Drew Nieporent's restaurant Rubicon.

Falkner's first location in San Francisco's Mission District, 82-14th Street, in 1997, in a joint venture with coffee roaster Bob Vorhees. It was on the Hayes Valley neighborhood until 2000, when she moved the restaurant to 399 Grove Street. Citizen Cake's second, spinoff location was located in San Francisco's Virgin Megastore on Market Street. Citizen Cake moved to 2125 Fillmore Street in Pacific Heights from 2010 to 2011.

Orson was co-owned by partner Sabrina Riddle and opened in SoMA at 508-4th Street, San Francisco in 2008. Orson was built by the Zack/de Vito company and took two years to build and cost $4 million dollars to build. However, there was a period of economic recession in 2008, the same year as the beginning. Orson retired in October 2011 after almost three years.

Falkner closed both of her San Francisco establishments, Citizen Cake and Orson, in 2011 and moved to New York, where she opened two short-lived Italian restaurants, Krescendo in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn, from 2012 to July 2014, and Corvo Bianco on the Upper West Side from July 2013 to February 2014.

Falkner's "Finocchio Flower Power" pizza from Krescendo was first voted first prize at the World Pizza Championship in Naples, Italy, in 2012.
