Personal life
When Michaeline Matteson brought football tickets to his Atlanta apartment, he met him. Roland was initially attracted by her and insisted that they dine together at a local restaurant. They developed a common love for family, and Michaeline admired how "[He] demonstrated] honesty, generosity, and all the things that could have easily trumped his value system." The couple married on February 17, 2006, after dating for three years. Roland is impacted by the date's close proximity to his father's birthday on February 18 and his parents' anniversary on February 19.
Career
Elton John's Greatest Hits, one of the first recordings to inspire Roland to try rock music, was released as a kid. Roland studied songwriting and guitar at Berklee College of Music in Boston for one year after leaving high school. For eight years, he was the lead engineer and producer at Real 2 Reel Studios in Stockbridge, Georgia. He formed Ed-E and another in the late 1980s and early 1990s, nicknamed Marching Two-Step. Shane Evans, a long-time Collective Soul producer and musician, was among marchers on marching Two-Step. Ed-E Roland, Roland's indie band, debuted in 1991 under the name Core, which was branded independently by the artist. The album is intended to showcase his ability to compose, record, and produce his own original music.
Roland changed the name of his band to Collective Soul after briefly using the term Brothers & Brides in the hopes of finding success in the music industry. Roland, on the other hand, became dissatisfied and almost gave up on the music business. He had been active in the local Georgia music scene since the 1980s. Despite the initial rejections, Collective Soul released Hints, Allegations, & Things Left Unsaid in 1993 on a separate label called Rising Storm. It was a collection of some of Roland's songwriting demos that he created while working at Real 2 Reel Studios.
In Orlando, Florida, this line attracted WJR 101.1. Many other college radio stations started to play "Shine," and it became a huge success. The success of the song and band in 1993 attracted Atlantic Records to a long-term major label contract. Hints Allegations and Things Left Unsaid was re-released around the world in early 1994. The band went from mystery to fame in a matter of seconds.
Dean Roland, Ed Roland's brother, is also a member of the band. Their father, a Southern Baptist minister who influenced their spiritual formation, was not a Christian rock band, according to Roland; however, Collective Soul is not a Christian rock band.
In 2011, Roland formed Ed Roland and the Sweet Tea Project, a group of friends and musicians. The Sweet Tea Project's cover version of "Shelter from the Storm" was published on Chimes of Freedom: Songs of Bob Dylan, a four-disc compilation of Bob Dylan's covers.
Devils 'n Darlins, the Sweet Tea Project's debut album, was released on September 3, 2013. "Love Won't Bring Us Down," the album's first single, was released on August 13. Ed Roland and The Sweet Tea Project's second album, Alder Lane Farm, was released on October 6, 2017.
Collective Soul's ninth studio album was released between February and October 2014, See What You Did Not Know About Continuing. Vanguard Records' album was released on October 2, 2015.
Roland's latest Collective Soul bandmates Will Turpin and Jesse Triplett, as well as former Collective Soul drummer Shane Evans and guitarist Peter Stroud, recorded a solo album in December 2014. The album, titled Anniversary, was dedicated to Michaeline de Leon's wife, to celebrate their 10-year wedding anniversary.
