He played college basketball for the University of Louisville and was drafted 14th overall by the Phoenix Suns in the 2009 NBA draft.

High school career

Clark grew up in Plainfield, New Jersey, and attended Rahway High School in Rahway, New Jersey. He has scored 1,245 career points. He averaged 25.2 points, 13.2 rebounds, and 5 assists per game as a senior. He was a 2006 McDonald's All-American as well as a fourth-team Parade All-American.

Clark, who was considered a five-star recruit by Rivals.com, was ranked No. 1 on the list. The No. 8 is the younger forward and the No. 2. In 2006, the country's second highest player.

College career

The young team struggled early in the 2006–07 season as a freshman for the Louisville Cardinals alongside Derrick Caracter, Edgar Sosa, and Jerry Smith. The team advanced to win 8 games out of its last ten games, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament.

He scored 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals against Stanford in the first game of the 2007 NCAA Tournament.

Clark decided not to draft the 2008 NBA Draft and return to the University of Louisville for the 2008-2009 season.

Clark, along with future NBA player Terrence Williams, helped Louisville win the Big East Championship and a first-ever ranking in the University of Louisville's history.

Professional career

Clark revealed early in his junior season that he would forego his senior career to join the 2009 NBA draft. Agent Dan Fegan told ESPN that he had signed Clark as a client shortly after the 2008–09 season, which ended Clark's college eligibility under NCAA rules.

Clark was drafted 14th overall by the Phoenix Suns in the 2009 NBA draft. On January 28, 2010, he became the first three pointer in his career. Clark was sent to the Iowa Energy of the NBA Development League on March 15, 2010, after only averaging 2.7 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 7.6 minutes in 45 games.

Clark was traded to the Orlando Magic alongside Jason Richardson and Hedo Türkolu for Vince Carter, Marcin Gortat, Mickaetrus, a 2011 first-round draft pick and $3 million cash. He made his first double-double on April 16, 2012, with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Clark signed a one-year deal with Zhejiang Lions in China in August 2011. However, he asked to leave the team for family reasons after not being in a game for the club for the first time. In December, he rejoined Orlando.

Clark was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers on August 10, 2012 as part of a four-team trade that brought Dwight Howard to the Lakers. The Philadelphia Nuggets acquired Andre Irvin and Jason Richardson, while the Orlando Magic acquired Arron Afflalo, Al Harrington, Nikola Vuevi, Josh McRoberts, Christian Eyenga, and one extra protected first-round pick from each of the other three franchises. Chris Duhon of the Magic also joined the Lakers in the trade. Clark had a breakthrough night against the San Antonio Spurs on January 9, 2013, shooting 27 minutes and setting personal records with 22 points and 13 rebounds. He had been playing sparingly, but he was given more playing time after suffering injury to Lakers big men Dwight Howard, Pau Gasol, and Jordan Hill. Clark's performance was "phenomenal," according to coach Mike D'Antoni; this was only Clark's second double-double. Clark had three double-doubles in six games, and he was named a permanent starter even after Gasol was back. Clark was playing nearly 30 minutes per game after three years of limited opportunities. However, he was drained by March, and D'Antoni replaced Clark with Gasol in the starting lineup.

Clark signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers on July 12, 2013.

Clark was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers alongside Henry Sims and two future second-round picks in exchange for Spencer Hawes on February 20, 2014. The next day, he was waived by the 76ers.

Clark signed a 10-day contract with the New York Knicks on February 27, 2014. He signed his second 10-day deal with the Knicks on March 10, 2014. The Knicks did not offer him a remainder of season deal on March 20, 2014.

Clark signed with the Memphis Grizzlies on September 25, 2014. However, he was later waived by the Grizzlies on October 22, 2014. He was first dismissed waivers by the Houston Rockets on October 24, but he was then asked to be waived again three days later.

Clark was signed by the Iowa Energy of the NBA Development League as an affiliate of the Memphis Grizzlies on October 31, 2014. However, he was traded to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers the next day.

Clark signed with the Shandong Golden Stars of the Chinese Basketball Association on December 10, 2014 after completing a buyout with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. Shandong's averaged 26.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per game in 19 games.

Clark signed a 10-day deal with the Brooklyn Nets on March 27, 2015. He signed a multi-year contract with the Nets on April 6, 2015. He was released by the Nets on August 10, 2015.

Clark was acquired by the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA Development League on October 30, 2015.

Clark was traded to the Delaware 87ers in exchange for a second round pick in 2016. In a 127–112 loss to the Westchester Knicks, he made his 87th appearance for the 87ers, recording four points, four rebounds, two steals, and two blocks in 21 minutes off the bench. Delaware waived him on March 19.

Clark signed with the Henan Roaring Elephants of the Chinese National Basketball League on May 24, 2016.

Clark joined Beşiktaş, Turkey's national team, on August 18, 2016. He re-signed with Beşiktaş for one season on July 3, 2017.

Clark signed with Budujo VOLI of the Montenegrin Basketball League on June 16, 2018-19 season.

Clark signed with San Pablo Burgos, Spain, on July 19, 2019. Clark's "franchise star" was on display in the Liga ACB, averaging 12.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Following the cancellation of the ACB league in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, he travelled to the United States with his family. San Pablo Burgos and Clark decided to part ways on May 15, 2020 after having trouble returning to Spain during the lockdown to restart practice sessions.

Clark joined Anyang KGC, the Korean team, on June 19, 2020.

Clark joined Herbalife Gran Canaria of the Spanish Liga ACB on December 22, 2020.

Clark joined the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the NBA G League on December 31, 2021. Clark was then suspended on January 21, 2022, without playing a single game for the team.

He signed with the NLEX Road Warriors of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) in August 2022 as the team's import for the 2022-23 PBA Commissioner's Cup.
