Doug Ducey Life

Douglas Anthony Ducey (born April 9, 1964) is an American businessman and politician.

He is the 23rd governor of Arizona and the former CEO of Cold Stone Creamery, a chain of ice cream parlors. Ducey was CEO of Cold Stone Creamery from 1995 to 2007, when he and his business partner sold the business.

He served as Arizona's State Treasurer from 2011 to 2015.

Ducey was elected governor of Arizona on November 4, 2014; he took office on January 5, 2015.

In 2018, he was reelected again.

Early life and education

Ducey was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio. He is the son of Madeline Scott and Douglas Roscoe, a former Toledo Police Department employee.

His parents divorced, and Michael Ducey, a businessman from 1975, married her mother, who remained married until 1981. Douglas and his siblings were adopted by Michael Ducey in 1976; Douglas's last name was legally changed to that of his adoptive father.

Ducey graduated from St. John's Jesuit High School in 1982 and then moved to Arizona State University (ASU) while working at Hensley & Co., the Anheuser-Busch distributor owned by Cindy McCain's family. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in finance in 1986.

Personal life

While attending Arizona State University, Ducey met Angela, his wife. They and their three children live in Paradise Valley. Ducey is a lifelong member of the Catholic Church of Malta.

Career

After graduating from ASU, Ducey joined Procter & Gamble and began a career in sales and marketing. Ducey served as the CEO of Cold Stone Creamery from 1995 to 2007. Cold Stone also had more than 1,400 locations in the United States and ten other countries when he and his business partner sold the firm in 2007. Ducey left the company following the company's transfer to Kahala as a result of allegations of franchise mismanagement.

He was the lead investor and served as chairman of the board for iMemories from 2008 to 2012.

Ducey, Arizona's state treasurer, was elected in 2010 to replace Dean Martin. Ducey, Arizona's chief banker and investment officer, managed more than $12 billion in state assets and served as an investment manager for local governments. The Treasurer serves as the chairman of Arizona's State Board of Investment and State Loan Commission, as well as as the state's surveyor general and a member of the State Land Selection Board. Ducey has also served as the western region vice president for the National Association of State Treasurers (NaC) and president of the Western State Treasurers' Union.

Ducey, Arizona's state treasurer, authored and promoted Proposition 118, a ballot measure designed to simplify how schools receive funds from the Arizona State Land Trust, which was a popular vote during his tenure as state treasurer. In 2012, Arizona voters approved Proposition 118.

Proposition 204, which sought to establish a permanent 1-cent-per-dollar sales tax on public education, transportation, and health care, was rejected by Ducey in 2010. "We don't need the money" is the topic of debate, he said, and "this money still does nothing to improve education." With 63.8% of voters condemning Protest 204, it failed.
