Early life
Don Omar was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico's barrio, and the oldest son of William Landrón and Luz Antonia Rivera. He showed an early interest in Vico C and Brewley MC's music. He became a member of a Protestant church, Iglesia Evangélica Restauración en Cristo in Bayamón, where he occasionally preached sermons. However, after four years, he left the church to dedicate himself to singing.
Personal life
Nicolas Valle Gomez, Omar's first son, was born in 2003. On April 19, 2008, Omar married forecaster/journalist Jackie Guerrido. The couple had divorced in March 2011.
Career
Eliel Lind Osorio, who appeared in a nightclub for the first time, was accompanied by disc jockey Eliel Lind Osorio. He appeared on compilation albums from well-known DJs and producers, including Luny Tunes, Noriega, and DJ Eric a few others. He also served as a backup singer for the duo Héctor & Tito. Héctor Delgado, one of the founders, helped him create his first solo álbum.
With the introduction of his first studio album, The Last Donkey with Frankie Needles, Omar's career went from star to stardom. Both the studio version and its live version have been rated platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. According to his official website, The Last Don: Live [CD & DVD] has sold over one million copies worldwide. The Billboard Latin Music Awards in 2003 named him for Latin Pop Album of the Year and New Artist & Latin Rap/Hip-Hop Album of the Year. At the 2005 Latin Grammy Awards, The Last Don: Live [CD & DVD] was also selected for Urban Music Album.
With his single "Angelito," Omar's May 2006 album King of Kings became history's highest ranking reggaeton LP in the top ten US charts and landed atop the Billboard Latin Rhythm Radio Charts, #1 on the Latin sales charts and a top ten list on the Billboard Latin Rhythm Radio Chart, Omar's debut. In addition, Omar was able to smash the in-store appearance sales record at Disney World's Virgin Megastore, which was previously held by pop star Britney Spears.
Omar's King of Kings debuted at No. 167, with the highest charting debut by a reggaeton artist. With a 74,000 beating, the 7th king of the United States defeated the 74,000. Don Omar received the Billboard Latin Music Award for Reggaeton Album of the Year for King of Kings in April 2007. King of Kings was the most influential album of the decade in Latin America, according to Billboard, besides being the most influential in the history of reggaeton. Billboard said that the album had sold over 4.1 million copies by the time of 2009.
In an event titled "Concierto del Amor," held in the Madison Square Garden on February 9, 2008, Omar attended Gilberto Santa Rosa's presentation. With Frankie Needles, he closed the show and performed reggaeton themes.
iDon, Omar's third studio album, was released on April 28, 2009. Sold Over 2.5 million are in this album. "Virtual Diva" became Latin radio stations' most popular song. On July 6, 2009, the second official single, "Sexy Robotica," was released.
Don Omar Presents: Meet the Orphans was released on November 16, 2010. The album features the artists under Don Omar's Orfanato Music Group's name as well as other reggaeton artists. The album features Portuguese-French singer Lucenzo's "Hasta Abajo" and the album's lead single "Danza Kuduro," as well as Orfanato Music Group's such as Kendo Kaponi, Syko, Plan B, Zion & Mackie, Danny Fornaris. "Danza Kuduro" appears on the Fast Five soundtrack and is the song that is performed at the end of the film. Via Universal Music Latino has signed him to VI Music and Machete Music. The album has a record of over 3 million.
The MTO2: Don Omar Presents MTO2: The New Generation was released on May 1, 2012. The album features artists and other reggaeton performers such as Zion Y Lennox, who has recently signed to Orfanato Music Group Natti Natasha. The collection includes "Hasta Que Salga El Sol," which received the award for Best Urban Song at the 2012 Latin Grammy Awards, and "Dutty Love" starring Natti Natasha, which was also nominated. Juan Magan, Mims, Syko, Vinny el Vendito, and Yunel Cruz have also collaborated on the album. The album has been well-received as it was named Best Urban Music Album at the 2012 Latin Grammy Awards.
Daddy Yankee and Don Omar announced in early 2016 that they would appear together on stage in a concert series titled The Kingdom World Tour after a decade of rivalry with fellow artist Daddy Yankee for the "King of Reggaeton" title. Many fans of the tour were disbelievef, while selling out in minutes in Las Vegas, Orlando, Los Angeles, New York. Don Omar talked about the tour and his rivalry with Daddy Yankee, "I am not his best friend, and he is not my best friend, but we respect each other." We're all striving to be the best, which has inspired us to be the best."
